Record how you do the challenge and then bring it in to school (with name and class) and post it into the Maths Box in the office by Wednesday.

Counsellor’s Corner

The year 5, 6 and 7’s are currently studying the Relationships and Sexual Health component of the Health curriculum. It focusses on puberty and changes that occur in their relationships with others as they grow up.

Puberty is the time when your child moves through a series of significant, natural and healthy changes. It is not always easy to talk to children about their bodies but it’s especially important to have a series of open and relaxed conversations before puberty starts. This will help children to feel ok about their bodies changing.

There are a couple of ways to kick-start a discussion about puberty:

  1. Find out what your child knows. For example, you could ask, ‘Do they talk about puberty and physical body changes in health class at school? What do they say?’
  2. Give your child the facts and correct any misinformation. For example, ‘Everyone goes through these changes, but not always at the same pace’.

Sometimes, you can start a conversation by picking up on a scene in a movie or TV show, a book that you’ve both read, or a comment on the radio as you’re driving in the car.

Your child might not want to share everything with you, so try not to force communication when your child doesn’t want to talk. Even when relationships with parents are untroubled, young people appreciate being able to discuss concerns confidentially. Your child might be interested in talking to the school counsellor or a GP.

SAPSASA

State Hockey Carnival

Amelie, Emma, Gabby, Clarice, Ronin and Alexandar have participated in the SAPSASA State Hockey Championships all week.  We hope they had a great time and no doubt represented Largs Bay well.

Health

In Health, students designed our new playground. They had to think about safety, practicality and of course, fun factor. Once they had designed it, they used materials to create their designs. Maybe you’ll see one of these in the playground in the latter part of the year.

The older students had to present an aspect of a Healthy Lifestyle to another class. There were a wide variety of methods used by the students to ‘teach’ their chosen topic. Games, powerpoints, physical activities, plays, posters and quizzes were just some of the ways chosen. There are definitely some future teachers amongst this group!!!
