Japanese

こんにちは,

Konnichiwa

Did you know that there was a traditional Japanese Sports Day game played at our recent Sports Day?

Tamaire - Bean Bag Shooting is a popular event played at Undoukai (Sports Days) all over Japan. It's a fun game that requires teams to work together to get the most bean bags in their basket in a set time. It is actually a lot harder than it looks! The students from 3-7 certainly had much better skill and aim than I did!

Hashi Relay - The JP students were challenged to develop their Hashi (chopstick) skills by completing the lolly snake relay. Luckily they were able to use 'training' chopsticks otherwise we might have been at this event all day long!

Sports Day

I’d like to begin by thanking every student, parent, volunteer and all staff who contributed to a very successful Sports Day. These kinds of days can not be run without parent support so I thank you for your contributions, whether that was cooking a BBQ or simply supporting your child/ren. Thank you. I was extremely pleased with how the day was executed and it was awesome to watch a sea of colour stream across West Beach Primary at the end of the day. We got lucky with the weather and didn’t have to cancel any of the events which was extremely pleasing.

Thank you to everyone who has helped fundraise and donated money to the pool shade area. Through the Colour Run online fundraising we have raised over $2000 which is an incredible effort. Children that have online fundraising profiles must order their prizes by the 15thof November via the school fun run website. Orders will not be accepted after this date. More information will be sent out on Skoolbag in the coming days.

Congratulations to Yakandi (Green) who finished the day with the most amount of points, winning our 2019 Sports Day. I would also like to take some time recognise the incredible work of our 2019 House Captains. Their hard work creating house chants, creating and implanting a whole school health hustle and organising their houses before and on Sports Day. It is not an easy thing to stand up in front of 300+ students/staff and speak so confidently. Congratulations on all of your efforts and your leadership. It was a pleasure to work with you.

Once again, thank you to students, staff, and parents who helped with the smooth running of an excellent Sports Day.

Kind regards,

Marley Reid

Science News

Science has started off this term with buzzing excitement as students engage in Chemical Sciences. Rooms 7, 8 and 9 were given an ice hand, some food colouring and salt and were asked to investigate and make observations based on what they noticed and experimented with. Students asked some very insightful questions from this activity and made some interesting observations. Rooms 1-6 were asked to work out what happened to a melted ice block - how they think it melted and what caused it to be in the state it was. Room 12 have been busy working hard to complete their green screen movies on Earth and Space. Room 10 learnt about how Aboriginal Australians used their natural environment to create tools for survival by changing the states of matter of various natural materials. Rooms 11 and 14 have been working to complete and present their moon colony models and they are looking fantastic!

So far, students have been very engaged and enthusiasm levels have been high during the Science lessons they have been participating in. It has been great to see the interesting conversations students have had from their engagement in the lessons. Keep it up, West Beachies!

Lunchtime Activities in the Library

On Tuesday and Friday lunchtimes we offer activities for students in the library. This includes craft, games, and Lego Masters.

These activities provide a fun environment for children to connect, cooperate and communicate whilst expressing their creativity, making new friends and learning new skills.

Room 3

On Friday the 25th of October West Beach Primary School had Sports Day. Everyone in Room 3 thoroughly enjoyed all the events; especially the Obstacle Course and the Fun Run.  It was great to see so many family members get involved on the day and even partake alongside the students in a few of the events. A big thanks to Mr Reid, for organising such an amazing Sports Day and Congratulations Yakanthi on a fantastic win!

The kids were asked to write a recount of Sports Day and these are just some of the responses:

“My favourite part of the day was the Colour Run because it made me so colourful” Sophie Koldenhof

“Everybody had fun on Sports Day and lots of people got to run! My best part of the day was the Fun Run because my Dad sprayed it all over me”. Julie Bailleul-Dumenil

“It was very fun because there was lots of people and you got to be in the same team as some of your friends.” Adam Bouafif

“My favourite part of Sports Day was the Sprint Race because I came first” Robbie Cole
