From the Principal

Term 4, Week 4, Kevin Kennedy

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Class Placement Process 2020

A letter was sent home explaining the process several  weeks ago. We are getting closer to completing the process however we are still receiving enrolments which can complicate matters. We will have an extra class next year which will feature a mix of composite and straight classes.  School enrolment numbers will be around 340.

2020 School Timetable

According to the Enterprise Agreement 2016, teachers are to only have a total of 1600 minutes face to face teaching time per week.

Presently West Beach Teaching staff are working a total of 150 minutes per week (30 minutes a day) over the allocation identified within the most recent agreement.

To reduce this we need to shorten the length of our day to 3pm, this will start in term 1 2020 (doors to classes will open at 8:50am with classes beginning at 9:00am). This will bring us into line with other schools in the area and ensure we meet the requirements of the  2016 Enterprise Agreement. To reduce the inconvenience to parents we will provide after school supervision until 3:20pm. This will be provided by the leadership team.

I appreciate that this will be an inconvenience to some families. Hopefully with the advanced notice suitable arrangements can be made. Before and after OSHC will of course still be available for families to access.

External Review – 25th, 26th and 27th November Week 7

The External School Review (ESR) provides an evidence-led external evaluation of a school’s capacity to continue to improve student learning. All Schools are reviewed by the department to evaluate their performance and effectiveness. This evaluation provides directions to the school that will amplify the ongoing improvement planning work and identify further high-yield improvement opportunities.

An external school review supports schools to raise student achievement and sustain improved performance.  The overarching review question is: How well is the school improving achievement, growth, challenge, engagement and equity? The review team will speak to staff, students and parents about this overarching question.

More information about the external review will be sent home in the coming weeks.
