In Year 9, we have started the year focussing on ‘Growth Mindsets’ discussing the benefits of embracing challenges, persisting in the face of setbacks, seeing effort as a ticket to mastery, learning from criticism and being inspired by the success of others.

Last week I sent home a Study Skills Checklist for you to look over with your son, the aim being for him to identify aspects of his organisation that can be improved. Can I please ask that a signed copy of this checklist is returned to his homeroom teacher.

Various activities will take place throughout the year such as a full-day retreat in Lysterfield in Week 5 of Term 1, a City Excursion in Term 2, the Learn to Dance program with Kilbreda in Term 3 and a two-night Outdoor Education Camp in the early weeks of Term 4.

Year 9 students will study five core subjects and three elective subjects. They will have mid-year exams for the core subjects, which are English, Mathematics, Religious Education, Science and History/Geography.

Homework detention will run every afternoon except for Friday from 3.15 until 3.45 pm in the 7.1 classrooms. You will receive an email notification if your son is required to attend this detention.

Uniform will be a focus throughout the year. Students are not permitted to wear a visible t-shirt under their school shirt and they are not permitted to wear black runners in place of school shoes. The school rain jacket is for wet weather days only, worn over the blazer to and from school. We ask that students clean their shoes on a regular basis.

In Year 9, we ask that students come to school dressed in school uniform and then get changed for PE at the commencement of the lesson. At the conclusion of the lesson, the students change back into his school uniform.

As a team, we will support the students through Year 9. We encourage the students to feel confident to ask for help at any stage throughout the year, with the homeroom teacher being the first point of contact. I am also available to provide support for any student. Please feel free to contact us if you have any concerns or questions throughout the year.
