Outreach-India

India

At the end of November last year, fourteen year twelve students, accompanied by four staff members, travelled to Southern India for a life-changing two weeks spent with the inspiring organisation Reaching the Unreached.

The boys spent two tough weeks helping to construct five brand new houses for five needy families, who were previously living in extremely tough conditions without plumbing or electricity. By the time we left these families had a new place to live and the St Bede’s crew had formed memories that will last a lifetime.

In their spare time, the boys taught English at the local primary schools and visited with nearby orphanages and youth hostels. There they played sport and improved their Tamil speaking with the local children. Most of these children do not have families they can go home to, and many have been diagnosed with HIV. The job that Reaching the Unreached do looking after these children was an inspiration to us all, and we were thrilled to see how far the Mission Action Day money can go in such a needy community.

Thanks to all those who followed our blog, gave us encouragement and to every student who has raised money for Mission Action Day. We have seen first hand how immense a difference this money can make, and we hope this can continue for many years to come.
