Year 5/6 Camp

A recount of Camp by the Students

On Monday there were a lot of goodbyes when the bus set off for Northam. When we got to Northam we went to the park to have some recess and free time in the playground. When we finished at Northam we started to drive off, heading for Point Peron. We drove for a long time and then we saw Perth. Everyone was excited. We were so excited that we started to wave at people. When we got to camp we had a tour around Point Peron camp. After the tour we went to do some archery. There were three groups. Some people got close to a bullseye. After we did archery we did a scavenger hunt around the camp. When we finished, we unpacked the bus and had showers. When everyone was ready we went to dinner which was lasagne. For dessert, we had chocolate pudding. At 8:45pm we went to bed. By Zoe and Krystal

On Tuesday we started our day with a bus ride to the WA Museum. At the Museum, we had to choose an artefact that sparked our curiosity. After the Museum we went to Parliament House. There, we observed meetings in the upper and lower houses. We also got told stories of Edith Cowan. After Parliament House, we went to Kings Park and had Domino’s pizza for dinner there. Wednesday started with rain. We weren’t allowed to go snorkeling and kayaking so, instead, we went rock-climbing which was very exhilarating. Unfortunately, some people tried but couldn’t reach their goal. Meanwhile, some people did reach their goal and were naturals. Next, we had abseiling, which was petrifying. Everyone made an effort, tried their best, and had a go. In the afternoon the sun came out and it stopped raining, everyone got changed and put their life jackets on and headed down to the beach. We all had a blast swimming and building sandcastles. Later on, we got the kayaks and boogie boards out and paddled around. Not long after, we got out of the water and went on the outstanding playground. Soon we had to go and have a shower. After everyone finished showering it was dinner time and we had fish and chips. For dessert, we had red jelly with whipped cream with a strawberry and a small piece of chocolate. We had some relaxing time and watched Night at the Museum. We did some meditation and hopped into bed.

On Thursday we went to Perth Mint and it was interesting. We saw a 1-tonne gold coin. After that we ate cookies on the way to SciTech. When we got to SciTech, we ate lunch which was wraps. At SciTech we got zapped by a zapper thing. We watched a Fire show which taught us about the Noongar seasons. Then we had free time at SciTech before we went to the Planetarium which was fascinating because we learned lots of stuff about Earth and the galaxy. After that, we went to Zone Bowling and everyone did well. Miss Bolt, Lara and Remy were our star performers. We enjoyed KFC for dinner back at the accommodation. By Maitland and Calvin

On Friday, our last day at camp. We packed up to leave. After that, we went to the Fremantle War Memorial and ate some food. Before we left, we had a tour of the Fremantle Prison. That was interesting. We saw The Cat of Nine Tails, Moondyne Joe’s escape-proof cell, and James Walsh’s paintings. They were a masterpiece! And then we saw the two Churches. At the end of the tour, we went to the gift shop. Finally, we started to leave back to Muka, we had some Subway and an ice cream each. Then at Wyalkatchem one of the bus filters got blocked so we had to get off and leave it running for a bit. Concluding our trip, we came back to Muka. By Declan & Jobe

We all think that Miss Bolt, Mrs Nixon and Mr Gibson deserve a very big THANK YOU (and a weekend of sleeping!!) for all of their hard work and care they put into ensuring this was a memorable camp for all involved.
