YEAR 7 NEWS…
We have officially made it to the conclusion of Term 1!! It is incredible to believe that your child has completed their first term of secondary school already. No doubt it has been an absolute whirl wind of a ride these past 10 weeks, however also celebrated with many triumphs and new experiences.
BIG NIGHT OUT AND WELCOME ST MARY’S PASTORAL DAY
Last week we celebrated our Welcome to St Mary’s Pastoral Day and the night before our first ever Year 7 BIG NIGHT OUT. It was excellent to see so many students in attendance at both events. The students all looked amazing in their Hawaiian costumes with Evie Duda and Sean Shuttleworth taking out the top prize on the night for best dressed. Special thanks must go to Mr Daniel Krause who organised the Year 12 College Band, lighting, and sound set-up for the evening. Without the exceptional stage area, it certainly would not have been the exciting event the students are continuing to still talk about. A big thank you must also go to Ms Headridge and the Year 11 Mentors for running the evening with Andrew Oxford on MC duties and other students running games. Students in Year 11 also assisted with the cooking of the BBQ and selling of lollies and soft drink on the evening. Without everyone chipping in and assisting with the evening it would not have been as successful. On behalf of all Year 7 students, we sincerely thank all who organised and were present in supervision for the event.
The pastoral day was an excellent success with students understanding the importance of Mary at our College. Mr Wood spoke with the students at the beginning of the day explaining who Mary is to him and what she means to the College. It was wonderful to have our Principal of the College provide his insights on Mary. The day continued with the students looking at the values and qualities of Mary and seeing where these are demonstrated at the College and how it is displayed within our College Mission statement. Students also had the opportunity to reflect on times when they have demonstrated qualities like Mary and Jesus at a particular time and said YES to a challenge. Before heading to the pool, students took the time to look at how they can add value to the College over the next six years. Students wrote down what they want to achieve over their time here at St Mary’s and how they can make a difference in our College. It was excellent to see so many students writing quite a lot on their paper for this activity.
Finally, the day finished at the Woree Pool with activities and games on the Wipe Out. Students were engaged and had fun with peers building relationships with all Year 7 students. It was lovely to have all the pastoral mentors participate in the day to continue building rapport with the students in their pastoral classrooms. I hope all students enjoyed the day and gained a better understanding about how St Mary’s is a school following in the footsteps of Mary and Jesus through faith, hope and love.
