Live Love Learn

Dear Families,

On Sunday, April 25th 2021, Australians and New Zealanders, both at home and overseas, will stop to commemorate ANZAC Day. A day of national and international significance that gives us all the opportunity to pause and reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who have served in defence of our nation, and those who continue to serve today.

At Galilee, we will commemorate ANZAC Day with a special assembly on Wednesday afternoon. All students have been involved in learning about ANZAC day and will present a wreath that they have been working on in class. We hope you all have a wonderful ANZAC day on Sunday and invite you to join in with our ANZAC Day Assembly that will be live-streamed. More information about our Assembly is outlined below.

ANZAC Day Assembly at Galilee

We will be holding our ANZAC Day Ceremony on Wednesday the 28th of April in the Hall from 2:40pm.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the ceremony will be live-streamed (link accessed on Parent Calendar) and attended only by parents of our SRC Leaders and award winners. Those attending onsite will need to sign in at the office.

On Wednesday the 28th of April, we ask that students bring a gold coin donation to receive a remembrance poppy which will be distributed in their classrooms on Wednesday morning.

If you would like to purchase an additional poppy, they will be for sale before school each morning up until next Wednesday.

The SRC Leaders from each class will have an active role in the ceremony.

Lest We Forget.

Fr John Spiteri

Fr John will be sadly leaving us for another position in Adelaide after May 10. He has been an integral part of the parish and Galilee school community. Fr John was present during 2020 when we experienced many changes in our world and his support and kindness was greatly needed and appreciated. We are grateful for the time he has spent with us. Fr John will be joining the staff for morning tea this Monday and we are hoping for him to attend an assembly to say goodbye to the students. Fr John will be replaced by Fr Gary Devery.

Wellbeing

Growth All Round

By believing that all growth comes from stretching yourself to learn new things, you will be prepared to look for opportunities to try more difficult and intelligent ways to grow your abilities. When you think you can grow to achieve something, you are more than halfway there to actually doing it. Stretching leads to mistakes, which lead to chances to use your strength to be gritty, to learn better things to fix your mistakes.

Evacuation Drill

Last Tuesday we successfully held an evacuation drill, including the construction workers on site from CICG. The evacuation process was took 10-15 minutes before students returned to classes to continue learning. An evacuation or lockdown drill is conducted each term to practise for an unlikely emergency. Thankyou to the staff who were professional and thorough and showed a terrific knowledge of our procedure.

Religion

On Friday, Australian religious songwriter and singer, Andrew Chinn, will be visiting our school to share his songs with our children. Andrew’s songs, such as “These Hands”, “Rainbow”, “An African Blessing” and “Rise Up!” are used in classrooms and liturgies around Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Canada.
