Year 7 Volleyball

Well done to our Year 7 Boys and Year 7 Girls Volleyball teams were both undefeated and both teams go through to the next round.

Sports News

Over the past two weeks, we have had a number of sports events happen.

Let’s recap them…

Senior boys cricket - played in the Northern Zone round robin but were unfortunately knocked out in the first round by Epping.  Set a target of 141 off 12 overs it was always going to be a big ask, but could only manage 86.

Intermediate boys cricket - won through the NZ round robin with some massive highlights.  Playing at Donath Reserve, against Mernda we made 104 with Leo Dench hitting a 6 that cleared the fence.  In game  2 we made 120 off 12 overs, and won this game as well.  In the final round, we made 125 against Northcote, with an opening ball wicket by Alex Campbell, caught by Captain Dench.  Northcote went on to be bowled out for 76.  This then progressed us to the next round, the NZ final (1 step back from state finals).  Unfortunately in a game of 20/20 Aitken College managed to get up, and we could only manage 73 on a bowlers’ wicket.  Aitken made 84, so we were right there, but it wasn’t our day.

However, that’s sport sometimes - you can be top of the world one minute, and then down in the dumps the next.

If you’ve been following the Wilson sisters (Eva and Freya), Eva got into State Competitions for Discus, Shot Put, Javelin and the Relay.  The competition is in a few weeks for this level, and then nationals after that.  Fingers crossed for the girls!

Speaking of Nationals, over the Labour Day weekend staff member Ross Purcell competed in the F16 national sailing championships at Frankston Yacht Club.

Competing in everything ranging from 5 knots and flat water to 25 knots and 2.5 metre waves (the toughest conditions he has have ever sailed in), Ross went on to win the National Championship.  This is the second time Ross has done this, successfully defending his previous national title.  F16 Catamarans are 2.5m wide, 5m long, able to be sailed with one or two people, and can easily reach speeds of above 20 knots across the water (40-45km/h). Some photos are shown below. A huge congratulations to Ross!!

Victorian Age LC Championships

Recently Jannik, Hanna and Niklas Hyland competed at the Victorian Age LC Championships.  Amongst a number of other achievements, Jannik achieved 4 national qualifying times for the 2021 Australian Age Swimming Championships held in April on the Gold Coast, PLUS he also qualified for the Australian OLYMPIC SWIMMING TRIALS in June in Adelaide, and achieved his first open time for the Australian Swim Championships.

We wish him well!
