Year 8 initiatives

Year 8 students getting some great vegetable growing tips from Casey - Bunnings gardening expert

Embracing our Electives

Over the past ten weeks, the Year 8 elective groups have been working hard to design, plan and implement a product or solution to a real world problem.  In the Food Lovers elective, students are looking at the topic 'How Food Impacts the World We Live In.

Each group has chosen a different problem and have come up with some innovative ideas on how these issues can be solved:

15 minute meals

Group 1-  Ronia Svitiev & Christa-Maria Warda

We looked at how stressful cooking can be when we are limited for time. We have decided to create a recipe book full of meals that only take 15 min to prepare and cook. This can help us save time, allowing us to do more of what we want... like eating.

@breakfastkidzzz

Group 2  - Monique Bartolo, Aleksia Kosic, Mary David and Katie Castaings

Our project is an Instagram account that provided images and links of a variety of different recipes that young children can make themselves or with little help from their parents. Our aim is to help parents who work get their child's breakfast sorted quickly and with as little trouble as possible. Being on an Instagram account children can scroll through the night before and choose early what they would like for breakfast.

Cooking for Change

Group 3 -  Aaron Daraphet, Tommy Mai, Chelsea Comer, Tayden Wang and Colin Do

We are focusing on helping the homeless by cooking meals. We initially decided to collect money in the form of donations to buy produce, however we have since decided to run a food drive and cook meals that use long life food or create hampers along with recipes to provide to those in need. Keep your eye's open for our food drive information over the next couple of weeks.

Cecil Hills

Group 4 - Aden Lawrence, Anthony Younan and Henry Ren

Our project is a food delivery website that is similar to UberEats or MenuLog. Instead of delivering to homes food is delivered to students at school to take dinner home to their families ready to be reheated. So far we have done a draft website and gathered a collection of recipes. We are hoping to take orders by week three next term!

Cecil Markets

Group 5 -  Toplica Pajic, Alex Mastroianni, Austin Zhang and Jonathan Khoshaba

We are creating a vegetable garden to grow fresh organic vegetables and take these to the local markets to sell.
