Student Leadership Group

From Your College Captains -

Jared Webb & Christine Jobli

It’s amazing how time flies! We’re already 6 weeks into term 2 and so much has been happening in our school community. Last Friday, we celebrated the academic endeavors of students who have shown high levels of dedication, enthusiasm in their studies and have contributed to the school community by showing acts of compassion and branching out. We would like to congratulate all award winners and encourage everyone to keep striving in reaching their fullest potential.

This year, Catholic Regional College Sydenham has been given the opportunity in creating a modern interpretation of the Stations of the Cross which will be displayed at the Catholic Education Conference later this July. Each group has been given a station and is comprised of 10 students who are dedicated in completing the art work.

St. Mary of the Cross once said “never see a need without doing something about it” and therefore as a Catholic community it is our responsibility to help those who are in need. This term as a college community, we are supporting and raising awareness for Mercy Hospice Care, an organization Father John O’Riley holds dearly to his heart. Mercy Hospice Care aims to help and care for those who are in need in their homes, as hospitals are not able to cater to them. Together as a college community, we aim to raise ten thousand dollars. The Student Leadership Group will be selling badges for five dollars and have also organised nachos and fairy floss to be sold during lunch time, to raise money for the cause. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask our Social Justice Captain, Bethany Lapsley or any other members of the SLG for more information.

The SLG team is also very busy organising College Feast Day 2016. Every meeting we meet to discuss how we wish to advertise and make it the best Feast Day Catholic Regional College Sydenham has seen yet! So far we have tasty stalls such as Fairy Floss, Popcorn, and Donuts! There will also be plenty of delicious food provided by Mana. We are hoping to see lots of unique and amazing stalls out there this year. Don’t forget that this year’s cluster stall that gains the most Syd Dollars get their name placed on the new ‘Feast Day Honour Wall’. Also we will be voting for the most unique, individual stall! If you forget how long until Feast Day, make sure to check the notice board outside the front office, as we have set up a Feast Day Countdown.

The whole SLG Team hopes that everyone’s week has been great! And we would like to end on a quote from our amazing Leadership Coordinator, Ashleigh Azzopardi, “There is no elevator to Success, you have to take the Stairs.”
