The Truganini Retreat Reflection - Year 11

The Truganini retreat was a great experience as this gave us the chance to learn a lot about the woman we are named after, Truganini, and the struggles and difficulties she encountered in life and death. We were able to reflect about the values that embody the Truganini cluster. This gave us the opportunity to walk in her foot steps and model her behaviour among our peers. Through the activities we were able to find out more about ourselves and others which gave us an opportunity to become closer as a cluster. We learnt how to work as a team and were able to enhance our creativity by competing with other groups by completing challenges and pushing our comfort zones such as creating and performing songs publicly. We were all able to support each other to overcome our fears through encouragement and reassurance. The camp was very relaxed and Paul did all of the dish  washing, with some help from some volunteers. On the second day, we listened to the inspiring story of a former CRC Sydenham student in Michelle Newlands. All of us learnt a good life lesson as she shared her story with us. She was able to overcome her hardships and show persistence throughout her life. This taught us how to never give up and that God is always there to guide us in his footsteps. She showed us that no matter what challenges life throws at us, through self belief, incredible hard work and the support of those around us, there are always good times to look forward to. Overall we learnt some valuable life lessons, ate some great food and had a really great time.
