Down on the Farm

Term 2 is upon us....

Year 8 has been studying Vegetables and they have put this knowledge to great use creating and maintaining their own gardens.  Thanks to the term break they were greeted with a forest of weeds and after some serious weeding they have discovered some well grown vegetables.

Now the task is to keep these beds clear and well looked after so they have a vegetable bounty later in the term.

These guys are also learning about chickens, having recently completed health checks of our flock and eagerly awaiting the arrival of some day-old chickens in coming weeks.  Hopefully to overcome some of their fears and understand what is required to look after chickens at home.

Stage 5 are looking at Prime Lamb Production and sheep in general.  A very well-timed topic with the addition of this year’s lambs late Term 1.

Adding to the mix, our farm assistant has been forward planning to cater for these extra mouths, sowing oats in several of our paddocks, providing much needed fodder.  All we need now is some decent rain to really kick things along.
