Basketball

It will be another Saturday of tough matchups this weekend. With that said, I would just like to see that our teams are improving as teams, working together and to give it their best. I also hope that our players are improving their individual skills to contribute to their team’s results.

Games of the day: 14As and the 14Bs just sneak past their opposition. End to end games.

Play of the day: 14Bs Buzzer beater. With only seconds to go, Doug Braddock inbounds the ball to Anthony Moutevellis, who delivers the ball to Ryan Jom, who slots the winner.

Deserves a mention: Matthew Venticinque – Open F.  Nicholas Rainbird – Open E.

Special mention for Oscar Davidson (13Bs) who was lucky enough to get the last pie at the Blue Mountains Grammar Canteen.

ISA Round 4 – 1st XI v Scots All Saints College Bathurst

The 1st XI travelled to Bathurst to take on Scots All Saints College. There was no hesitation to bat first on a hard, dry wicket when Stuart Dingley won the toss. He and Adam Greenwood worked hard against some tight bowling to set the foundation for the innings with a 70 run partnership. Charlie Sharp and Joe Colgan boosted the score with a 55 run stand with Sharp impressively attacking approach bringing five boundaries in quick succession. Finishing at 9-169 felt like a par total.

The two young left handed openers for the opposition batted sensibly and it took some time before Rory O’Connell was able to break through. Chances for run outs were missed but the main issue was the lack of pressure by 1st XI bowlers and fielders as runs were accumulated with some ease. A comprehensive win resulted for the home side as the bowling was attacked towards the end. The 1st XI will be looking to bounce back at home over the next two weekends before the Christmas holiday break.

Scots All Saints 2-170  defeated 1st XI 9-169 (Stuart Dingley 38, Adam Greenwood 37, Charlie Sharp 31, Joe Colgan 29).

Tennis

Apart from the few sprinkles of rain it was perfect weather for tennis last weekend. It is so exciting to see the improvement in the green ball players as the term goes on. Luca Cheal showed great strength returning the balls at the net. After a late start, due to a broken arm, Aiden Parsons had a smashing start to the season winning both singles and doubles 6-0! Sean Balaji, Tom Sweeney and Venedict Valerio proved to be a formidable team winning 18 games against Redlands, great rallies were seen and excellent sportsmanship shown. Thank you to our umpires for this week: Nick Tozer, Tom Fong, Lucas Wong and James Higgins.

Nick Tozer and Tom Fong backed up to play their game after umpiring in the morning session. Although they didn’t win, they continue to put in a great effort. Rory Cooper and Ryan Fong both in year 6 are the top ranked players in the Junior School and they have played some tough opponents. Unfortunately last week, they played a set of twins from Redlands, twin power won in the end and the boys lost but not without a fight.

Please note that the finals and play-offs will be played this weekend and all boys will be involved in the games. The draw can be found below.
