THE SECRET LIFE OF .........
MOUNT ELIZA SECONDARY COLLEGE -
CANTEEN MANAGER - KIM DUNSMORE
Interview:
1. Where and why did you travel overseas?
I went overseas to England in the last school holidays to complete in the Go Kan Ryu Karate World Championships.
2. How did you go?
I won the Bronze medal in the Kata Division.
3. Were you happy with your result?
Yes, as it was my first World Cup, and to have the experience of travelling overseas to represent Australia was a huge highlight.
4. When did you start doing this activity?
I started karate about a year and a half ago with my son.
5. What got you into this activity?
I wanted to do something fun and encourage a fitness program with my son.
6. Who introduced you to this sport?
I did karate when I was a kid but it was a different style.
7. How did you feel, before, during and after the competition?
Very nervous before, during the competition I was fine and mentally had a lot of support, and afterwards I was amazed that I had received a medal.
8. Have you received any injuries while doing this sport?
Yes, but only from being older. Earlier this year I hurt one of the ligaments in my foot. Other than that I’ve had no Injuries.
9. What was the highlight of the trip?
Apart from winning a bronze medal I loved touring around, seeing friends and just going back to the UK, as I had worked over there in some classy restaurants in the past.
10. Did you do site seeing while you were in England? If you have what did you see?
I saw most of the sights of London and went on a tour that went out to Cambridge. They were the main two spots as I had already seen a lot of the UK when I was younger.

NATIONAL TREE PLANTING WEEK
Peta Murphy, our local Federal member kindly donated a Snow gum to be planted at our College. Students from the EPP and Leadership program assisted with the planting and then spent some time talking to Peta about how we can seek funds to support the work we are doing with sustainability at the College. She was very receptive and has encouraged the students to submit an application for a current grant as well as work towards planning a Sustainability day for like minded students from schools nearby. Peta is willing to support our students in planning and running this day. Another great example of the opportunities our students get at this College.
THE GREAT BOOK SWAP
As part of MYP’s ‘Service in Action’ and in preparation for the Community Project in year 9, our year 8 cohort will plan and implement ‘The Great Book Swap’ this term. Learn more about this worthy fundraiser through the link below:

YEAR 9 COMMUNITY PROJECT
In year 9 we are currently working on a Community Project that meets the needs of others or addresses an issue in the local or global community. For my Community Project I am donating toys and games to children in hospitals to brighten their day, or their family’s day. If you would like to help out then you can! All donations have to be new and still in plastic or original packaging. There will be a box in the Senior office and Middle/Junior office or you can personally give them to me. Your help/donations will be greatly appreciated
