STUDENT ACTIVITIES

MAGIC MOMENTS CAMP

I was one of the lucky three students chosen to attend the Magic Moments in Sydney in July.  This camp was founded 10 years ago by three wonderful women wanting to have a positive impact in young people’s lives. Bendigo Bank and the Mount Eliza’s Lion Club enabled us to go through their generosity of  a sponsorship.

The camp was 5 days and 4 nights,  every day began at 6:30 am and we arrived, exhausted, back at our cabins at about 12pm.  This camp consisted of team games and many motivational speakers, talking about how we can change our lives positively and make them great. Within 24 hours of being at the camp the three of us had already bonded strongly with the 7 other people in our team. Our team was called the ‘penguins’ and during all the games we worked well as a team together. I would go into further detail about the activities and speeches, however I do not want to ruin the surprise for further magic moments attendees. Some of the activities were of an incredibly personal nature and there was an agreement that we wouldn’t discuss any of these themes further after the camp.

As a very introverted, shy teenager, I found the trip to Magic Moments incredibly stressful and nerve-racking. After being at the camp for less than an hour, I had already grown in confidence and felt secure and safe with everybody around me.

For me personally, Magic Moments has had a huge impact in my life. I loved every second of being in that environment and was torn apart when I had to leave. Myself and a fellow participant from our school will be fundraising, so we can attend the graduate program at Magic Moments next year.

I would like to encourage any student who is given the opportunity to go and attend the program, even if like me you are initially scared of the prospect of going.

MUNA

Model United Nations Assembly -  National Event.

Callum Mann and Trinity Joseph will be heading to Canberrra on the 15th of August to represent Victoria in the National MUNA competition. Following their fantastic work at the State event they have since been preparing the 12 resolutions they need to be on top of for the upcoming Assembly. The competition is over two days and the students need to represent the views and values of the country they have chosen in a forum that replicates the United Nations general Assembly  (our boys have chosen North Korea!).  Six resolutions that would have been debated in the real UN are debated by the students and the team which is judged the best at enhancing peaceful solutions and representing their country the best will be judged the winner. There are 28 teams competing- Best of luck to our talented boys and congratulations on the work you have done so far.

ADVENTURE IN THE CBD

July 31st was an unforgettable day: Our year 10 International students accompanied the study tour students from Shanghai and two of their year 7 buddies to the City. I was glad that I had the chance to interact with them and share some of the fantastic secrets of Melbourne.

Kiki

We visited the Aquarium and saw some marine life such as seahorses.

Zi Hong

I wanted to see prawns. I didn’t see prawns but a giant crocodile.

Yai

I saw the penguins being fed by the keeper. They were cute when they moved their body to walk. Then there were three penguins diving down into the water with flexible bodies. They were enjoying the water. That impressed me the most.

Dabria

We learnt about the mysteries of marine life.

Afterwards we went to the Eureka Skydeck. It was so high and I was so scared, but it was amazing to view the city from high above.

Standing at the very top, we saw the panorama of the City which although shocked me helped me understand how the City reaches all the way to the bay.

Finally we ended our trip at 3 o’clock. What a day full of fresh memories!
