TERM 3 AWARDS

SENIOR PATHWAYS PROGRAM
(YEAR 10-12)
It has been a busy but productive start to Term 3 with students well into their Unit 2 and 4 studies. Last week our Year 10 and 11 students completed course counselling with our school leadership team where students made their subject selections for 2020. If your child is yet to complete their course selection, please contact the Senior School Leaders (Ms Ashleigh Manning or Ms Elena McLuskie) as soon as possible.
Over the past couple of weeks our Year 12 students have listened to several presentations by tertiary institutions such as Monash and Deakin University in preparation for their VTAC applications which started this week. Whilst this is an exciting time of year for students as they begin to plan their future, we understand it can be as equally daunting if uncertain of what pathway to follow. We therefore encourage ALL our senior students, and parents, to book a meeting with our Careers Advisor, Leanne Paterson, who can assist in navigating your child in the right direction for them.
While we may be approaching the home stretch for the VCE academic calender, students are strongly encouraged to be make the most of the many opportunities that still remain both inside and outside of the classroom. With many teachers offering weekly lunch time and after school study sessions there are many opportunities for students to further consolidate their understanding in each of their respective studies prior to the exams. With many of the finals exams worth 50% of the subject study score every moment counts and can only benefit students further.
Our VCAL students have been working hard fundraising for their upcoming community service trip to Fiji. This fundraising work has involved hours of weekend and after school work that VCAL students have contributed to with smiling faces and a team spirit. The class have raised enough funds to contribute to at least 50% of the travel costs of 11 students. Students that are not travelling have organised a work placement for this time where they will experience an industry different to the one they are currently involved with. Whether travelling or not, all students have contributed to fundraising events while learning about budgeting, profit and loss, planning events, communicating with community businesses and working in teams. VCAL students should be proud of their efforts.
A whole school assembly was held at the college to celebrate the achievements of our Senior School students. Congratulations to the following students on their achievements during Semester one.

Last week our Year 12 students also attended the T.R.A.G presentation about road safety. Many of our students commented that whilst the stories from the emergency services workers and the parents who had lost their own children in road accidents were confronting, they were equally as powerful and reminded them of the important of developing safe driving habits on the road. This week our Year 11 cohort were treated to some R and R from our student leaders, with a range of activities such as Yoga, Mindfulness and Zumba.
FOOD TECHNOLOGY "NAILED IT 2019" -
Students applied to be part of the Food Technology - "Nailed It 2019" Competition. Eighteen students (9 pairs) were selected to participate. Students were presented with a selection of decorated cupcakes, then in pairs attempted to replicate them under strict time constraints. The participants all received two 'HELP' cards per pair. These provided two minutes of advice/help per card. Other than this, students used their own initiative and creativity to get the cakes decorated. Once the time was up the students revealed their groups creations to the judges and other contestants.
Lily Whistlecroft and Melody Pascoe of Year 7 won ‘Nailed it 2019'. Runners up were Kaitlyn Meyers and Grace Mead of Year 9.
Well done to all who participated!
