Year 9 Arts Electives
Music
Backstage Pass
Students work in a variety of ways (individually, small group and ensembles) to prepare a range of musical pieces for performances within the class. Students will be responsible for working on all aspects of performance such as staging, band equipment, mixing and recording. Students will have the opportunity to develop composition skills through workshops that will allow them to learn an instrument and experiment with melodies and lyrics. At the end of the semester, students are expected to record their work and analyse the work of their fellow composers. Students will explore various contemporary and Indigenous Australian musical artists. Students will have the opportunity to work alongside other performing arts electives.
Music Lab
Students explore the history and evolution of current technologies present in music. They use software packages from a variety of media to create, arrange and record music. Students then use their knowledge of this software to write and compose their very own compositions. Over time, students will use the technologies covered in class, in conjunction with live instrumentation, to write and compose their own songs. The course also includes practical knowledge of sound equipment such as a P.A. system and mixing desk.
Music Mastery
Students learn to read music notation including the treble staff, note groupings and basic melodies and chords. Major scales and intervals will be studied each class together with transcription of basic rhythms. Students will learn a piece of music on either guitar or keyboard and present this to the class. To finish the semester students will compose and notate their own piece of music.
