Outdoor Education

Students from Years 9, 10 and 11 have all begun their studies and practical excursions for the 2019 school year, with an packed schedule now very much under way.

Our Year 9 Outdoor Ed students have just completed the wonderful Werribee Gorge loop walk. All students successfully completed the 10.4km hike over rocky and hilly terrain, in some of the most glorious natural environments in the State. Students were lucky enough to get up close and personal with wallabies, and even saw some of the resident falcons and eagles soaring above them. Students will complete their two day camp in Anglesea in the next few weeks.

The Year 10 VCE and VCAL students have recently completed their first excursion as well, completing an orienteering course at Keilor’s Brimbank Park. Our students did extremely well, participating in hot, windy conditions. All students have improved both their natural and compass navigation skills, and experiences a range of natural environments. Our VCE students are looking forward to their first camp of the year, where they will be visiting the Lerderderg State Forest and Wombat State Parks.

The Year 11 students have also had a busy start to the year, visiting the abandoned mining town of Steiglitz in the Brisbane Ranges, for a hiking excursion. These students are also gearing up for their major excursion of the year, where they will complete the Grampians Peaks Trail over three days.

Keep an eye on the Melton Mail for updates on all future excursions and activities, as it’s going to be an exciting year for everybody.
