Parent involvement is one of the most important factors in the academic success of your child. If we take the time to collaborate and communicate with families, it will make our job easier and increase your child’s chances for success! By sharing with you the major content that will be focussed on in each term; presents as an opportunity to start a discussion with your child. Instead of asking them 'What did you learn today?' and have the answer come back as 'nothing'. By simply turning around the question to 'What did you struggle with today?' may give you a better insight into their learning. Remember when your child is struggling, is when authentic learning is occurring.
I therefore encourage you to have a look through the curriculum outlines and keep referring back to them throughout the term. We encourage you to speak with your child's teacher if you require further information or clarity regarding anything in the overview.
In the last 12 days of school I have had the privilege of being involved in literacy and numeracy information sessions for Prep parents and the presentation of our revised homework policy. I have been reminded once again about how committed this community is to your child/children's wellbeing and education. Your response to take the time to attend these meetings is to be commended.
I've also been very pleased to see how many parents have taken the time to informally meet with your child's teacher for 2018 at the morning teas. We also understand that it is not always possible to take this time out of your working day. It is for this reason that we are offering parent/teacher chats this Thursday and our curriculum workshops on Tuesday March 6 in the evening at 7-8 p.m. Please refer to Kevin's page for further information regarding these two events.
