In these times of constant negative news, it is important for both students and parents to understand that the current job market is indeed quite positive. In fact, the following snapshot of the labour market should offer hope for students following either a University or a TAFE pathway once they complete their senior education

Job advertisements increased by 8% in April 2022 to stand at 311,100.
The level of recruitment activity nationally remains significantly elevated compared to pre-COVIC-19 levels, up by 84.9%.
- Managers – 58.7% increase
- Professionals – 5.4% increase
- Technicians and Trades Workers – 7.3% increase
- Community and Personal Service Workers – 6.5% increase
- Clerical and Administrative Workers - 9.5% increase
- Sales workers – 12.5% increase
- Machinery operators and drivers – 6.7% increase
- Labourers – 10.4% increase

Reminders

Work experience for Year 10 students is happening in week two of Term 3 and there are still many students who are yet to find a placement and/or return their forms. If you are struggling to find a place, please contact me as soon as possible, as we have some opportunities you may be interested. Work experience arrangement forms can be found here and need to be completed and returned to me ASAP.

As you can see, August is incredibly busy for open days, so I advise that if you are a student in Year 10 or 11, you start early and attend some of the universities and campuses that may be of interest, so that you don’t run out of time trying to attend them all in Year 12! I will continue to update the table as more universities publish their dates, and registration for open day information can be made by clicking on the university name in the table.

Snapshot: Melbourne University Diplomas

If you are a student who has a passion for music, languages, mathematics or computing but may want to pursue a career in another area, these diplomas could be just right for you. If you are offered and accept a place in a Melbourne University undergraduate degree for 2023, you will then have the opportunity to apply to complete a diploma concurrently. You will study music at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, or study one of 12 languages to increase your career competitiveness, whilst concurrently completing your undergraduate bachelor’s degree.
