VET Taster and Information Sessions
Anne Gough
It is pleasing to see that most Year 9 students have taken the opportunity to participate in this day on Tuesday June 14. The program enables students to learn about all the VET options available for Year 10 course selection through a full day of experiences. This is very important as it enables students to make informed decisions about their interests and skills as well as possible career options and pathways.
VET Delivered to Secondary Schools (VETDSS) courses are delivered at HDSC, SW TAFE and Monivae so all students will visit each of these sites. At SW TAFE students will participate in all 3 courses offered there; Agriculture, Early Childhood and Health & Community Services. At HDSC Hospitality, Building & Construction, Automotive, Hair & Beauty, Creative Industries (3D Animation) and Technologies (Game Programming) are taught so students have selected two to try in a hands-on session. At Monivae students will do a quick visit to see the new engineering workshop where the VET Engineering is delivered.
It is important to note that VET is recognised within the VCE & ATAR and at Year 10 provides a fast-tracking VCE course, in addition it also provides a VET certificate qualification.
