Greater Western Regional Cross Country

On Monday, a team of qualified students participated in the GWR Cross Country at Deakin University in Warrnambool. Those that contributed ran to their best ability despite the cold and chilly weather. Ultimately it was an outstanding day with everyone encouraging and supporting each other and performing at their highest level. I would like to thank Clinton Thomas and Mr Johnson for making the day possible and contributing to it running so smoothly.

Yr 11/12 Boys Football

On the 17th of May Monivae College First 18 travelled to Pedrina Park for a round robin against Hamilton and Alexandra College, Baimbridge and Portland Secondary. We won our first two games against Baimbridge and Portland, then unfortunately went down to College by nine points. Our better Players for the day were Deacon White, Will Povey, Will Kent, Sullivan Gibbs, Jackson Templeton and Ben Marti. The player of the day went to Deacon White. Thanks to Mr. Simon Hatherell for coaching the team as well as Ms Sarah Byron for organising the day.

Yr 9/10 Boys Football

The inter-school football carnival for Yr 9 & 10 boys returned after a two year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic at Pedrina Park on Wednesday May 25.

Baimbridge College, Portland Secondary College, The Hamilton & Alexandra College and Monivae fielded teams to play off for the Bob Templeton Shield.

Monivae were drawn to play Baimbridge College in the first match, and whilst we recorded a comfortable victory, the final score was not a real reflection on the competitive nature of the Baimbridge team. Lachlan Page was a live wire up forward booting 3 goals and Tom Calvert and captain, Angus Kissel, did an excellent job across the half back line setting up many forward thrusts.

In the second contest we came up against Portland Secondary College who had lost a couple of key players in the lead up due to COVID. Monivae were simply too classy and strong for Portland. Judas Dumoo commenced dominating the ruck and gave our on-ballers plenty of opportunities to make centre clearances. Jake Hardy, playing as a key forward, kicked 5 goals and gave off another 3, Brodie Phillips made the most of his time in the forward line by contributing with 4 goals and Charlie Field, who dominated this game, chimed in with three goals.

In the third and final game we came up against The Hamilton and Alexandra College. They fielded quite a strong side and really tested our boys. There were some wonderful passages of play from both teams, and the physical side of the contest was tough but in the correct spirit of the game. As in game 1, the final score did not really reflect the evenness of the contest.

Brent Mullins, as a roving forward, played his best game for the day and kicked 3 important goals. Judas continued to ruck brilliantly, giving the likes of Charlie Field, Jack Jennings, Lachie Page and Tom Calvert for use out of the centre. Across the backline we had Peter Millard, Brodie Phillips, Angus Kissel and Rhys Daffey repelling many of the College attacks.

I would like to congratulate our Captain Angus Kissel on a fine performance over the 3 games and his ability to "marshall the troops" on and off the field is to be commended.

Thanks to Clinton Thomas who came up and assisted me in my role as coach and to Mr Jim Bailey who gave up his time to transport the players to and from Pedrina Park.

Our "medal" winner for the day was Charlie Field, for his consistent effort across all 3 games. Other better players across the 3 games were Angus Kissel, Judas Dumoo, Jake Hardy, Brent Mullins, Tom Calvert, Jack Jennings, Brodie Phillips and Lachlan Page.

Upcoming sports:

With the term drawing quickly to a close, I have sent out emails to students for the following sports that are happening early Term 3:

Yr 7/8 Boys football
Junior girls football
GD Basketball Yr 9/10
GWR Senior hockey
NV Netball championships - all year levels
Clay Target team

If they wish to try out for any of these sports, they must complete the Google form. I am asking they nominate via the google form as there are other staff involved with training/try outs and coaching and they also have access for these forms. By doing it this way students' names are all on one database for that sport. Students will then be notified on try out/ training dates directly via email from the coach.

As many of these sports have limited teams and places we will be holding try outs and where possible we will be taking 2 teams.

Students need to be consistently checking their emails for further details.
