“O human being, this is what God desires for you. That you do justice. That you love kindness. That you walk humbly in the presence of your God” (Micah 6:8).

The month of May offered the Monivae community opportunities to both celebrate and reflect.

The celebration was Catholic Education Week 22nd to 28th of May, where the message was “Share the Good News”.

The reflection took part when we recognised National Reconciliation Week 27th May to June 3rd, where all Australians were encouraged to “Be Brave. Make Change”. This challenge was put out to all Australians to tackle the unfinished business of Reconciliation to the benefit of all Australians.

Monivae recognised both of these occasions through a combined Catholic Education Week / National Reconciliation Week Liturgy, where St Mary’s Primary School Hamilton joined us along with Parish priest Father Paddy Mugavin.

Students from both schools participated in readings, prayers and song, and both messages were shared amongst the school communities.

The St Vincent de Paul winter appeal was launched on Thursday June 2nd, with a Bake Sale and Pyjama Day casual day beginning the fundraising. The bake sale was a fantastic success with a profit of $600 ready to be donated.

Each homeroom will also be given a laundry basket and are encouraged to bring tins of food (or other non-perishable items), as well as any old blankets (in fair condition) to donate to the Winter Appeal. This appeal will run until the end of term, and the cold weather has been a good reminder to all that some are doing it tougher than others at this time.

Upcoming Events:

  • Friday June 24 – Last Day of Collection of Tins for St Vinnies (Winter Appeal)
  • Friday June 24 – Sacred Heart Day.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere loved.
