From Our School Leaders

Whole School Production

Thank you for coming along and supporting our school production, 'Sing and Play!' last Wednesday night. It was such a wonderful whole school event, and we have heard so many lovely comments from our school community about the show. We are very appreciative of your support and also glad you enjoyed it.

We would once again like to acknowledge the hard work and effort behind getting such an event staged. Jarren Boyd has worked hard with all grades and individuals to practise music performances, lines and dances and, on the night, the kids were well prepared and confident. Staff across the school have played a large part in this production too. It truly was a whole school event.

For our students it is one of the things they will remember when they think back on their primary school years. Many of the children had large bouts of nerves about going on stage, dancing or talking, and all of them overcame them on the night. That is quite a personal achievement and something to be very proud of.

During the rehearsal day we watched our students supporting each other. It was really lovely to see them get up and do each other's dances, sing the songs and be a good audience for classes to practise to. The Crossway Centre staff complimented our students on their behavior and how well they respected the venue.

We are very proud of our students and all they achieved last Wednesday night.

Well done to all.

Please see the Performing Arts News section of this newsletter for more photos from the performance.

Chinese Cultural Day

We are celebrating Chinese culture this term with a whole-school Chinese Cultural Day on the second-last day of Term 2, Thursday 23rd June. Each child will participate in activities throughout the day then, at the end of the day, there will be a Dragon Show incursion. Notices for this event are on COMPASS. It will be a fun-filled day and a lovely end to Term 2.

Illness

We understand that children are becoming unwell at this time of the year; winter has certainly come upon us. Please keep unwell children at home. It is also helpful to us if you can put their absence on COMPASS, or call the office for them to do it for you. It is a DET requirement that children who are not present are checked upon to make sure they are safe and haven’t had incidents on the way to school without an adult knowing. This is the reason office staff ring families at 9.30am to confirm absences.

Attendance

This term we have been monitoring student attendance. We are now tracking student lateness as it is part of our attendance data.

Perpetual lateness can cause stress for students as they miss the explanations of the daily routines, special events for the day and the before school catch-ups with friends in the school yard. From now through to next term, as latecomers come to the front office to get their Late Pass, we are tracking and recording the times they arrive.

We understand that, on occasion, families run late in the morning for a range of reasons, but daily lateness does affect children and their learning in the classroom.

Staff will be contacting families about absence or lateness during Term 3 if it becomes a recognised problem. Please work with us to ensure that children are here at 9.00am, ready for learning for the day. If you are having difficulty in addressing attendance issues with your children, please contact your class teacher, or our school leaders.

Reports and Term Assessments

Staff are busily preparing student mid-year reports at the moment.  At the end of term you will receive the reports via COMPASS. You will need to go into your child’s individual dashboard to read the mid-year report.

There will also be two portfolio assessments coming home at the end of the semester. These will showcase a reading task and a maths task. Once again, we ask that the portfolio folder be returned to school once the task is shared.

Bikes

We have had a bit of trouble with bikes being interfered with in our bike shed recently. The police have been contacted about the issues.

As a precaution, and to prevent any further issues, can we please ask that bikes are locked (using your own bike locks) in the bike enclosure.

Occasionally plans change and bikes sometimes get left at school overnight.  If this is the case, please walk the bike inside and we will store it inside overnight in a secure space; that way the bike will be safe.

We encourage children to walk or ride to school and we don’t want bike security to be an issue or reason for children not wanting to ride to school. Thank you in advance for your assistance with this.

Time To Enrol

We are taking enrolments for 2023 Foundation students now. If you are looking to enrol at Scoresby PS next year, please pop into the office and collect an enrolment form. Or, alternatively, you can download one from our school website. www.scoresbyps.vic.edu.au

We are conducting school tours regularly and you are welcome to book in for a tour at any time. After hours tours (5.00pm) can also be arranged. Please share this news with interested neighbours or friends.
