Netball Carnivals

Sharp shooters at State Netball Centre

THE one-day ACC Senior Netball Carnival, inside and outdoors at Golds State Netball Centre, required each school to compete against four other schools within their allocated pools.

Our team was placed in a strong pool, facing schools with established netball programs. The girls didn’t let this deter them and they came out in full force in our first game, against St Andrews. The defensive pressure from Maja, Selena and Paige allowed for lots of intercepts and turnovers. Lachauntae was a fantastic linking WD and helped us to work the ball down the court.

Holly commanded the centre court and dominated the feeds into the circle. Kira shone in WA and worked hard all day providing an option to the ball and feeding into the shooters. Neve and Melody were unstoppable shooting for all around the circle and even looking for shooter to shooter options, these combinations continued to work well throughout the course of the carnival.

With only eight players and having no break throughout the day the girls fought hard to beat St Andrews (58-1), Aranmore (24-18) and Kingsway (21-13), however just fell short in our last game against Corpus Christi when the fatigue set it.

After a courageous effort by the whole team, we finished second in our pool, allowing us to continue through the top 16. We will compete in an after-school game on 19 or 26 July against the winner of the SAS Senior competition.

Junior Girls - Fremantle

Our Year 7/8 Girls played their first game against Mercedes and right way showed great skill on the court, quickly learning to work as team. Even though they had only one practice run in the lead-up, the girls were confident in the positions they played. Chloe Taylor, Alyssa Smith and Tijuana Vucinic were involved in taking several shots at the net, ensuring the team won four out of five games. This would have not been possible without the help of Abbey Andrews, Sophie Andrews, Gemma Rangitorheriri , Amelia Hindmarsh and Chiara D’Urso all who played pivotal roles in defence, ensuring St Norbert retained possession.

Year 10 Girls - Fremantle

What determination! The Year 10 girls knew what they had to do and were determined to fight to get it done! Winning two out of their five games, with three of those so so close, I was so impressed and proud of their will to keep pushing and finish off each game strong. The girls played their last game as strong as their first! Our defense never wavered with Maya, Charlotte and Georgia dominating in the mid-court and goal defense. At the other end of the court, Shanyka and Angelica worked together, almost never missing on goal. Lucy, Taylah and Matilda were impressive in the mid court to move the ball quickly down our end. A big shout out to Shelna who didn’t know many of the rules but by the end of the day knew her way around the court and made more impact than she thought she might. I look forward to seeing these girls progress into the senior teams next year as over the years I have had the pleasure of watching their skill improve more and more.
