Meet Our College Captains

2022

Alyssa Holmes-Finch, Environment Captain, Cranbourne Campus

What do you see as your role as a leader?

The role I have as a leader is to be a positive influence to others around me and help educate people about the environmental issues that are occuring in our College, community and the world.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

The Strive and Thrive Program at St. Peter’s College is something that stands out to me as being positive, it helps students embrace their connection with themselves and has contributed positively with my own self awareness.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

One person in particular that I look up to is Mrs Lortan, She was my Year 11 Literature teacher, she helped me expand my view of life through different perspectives and has even inspired me to want to do a Literature course in University to further my own personal development.

What are your goals as Captain in 2022?

The overall goal that I would like to achieve is to make more people aware of how important the environment is and have a deeper understanding of the power of the connection between us and nature.

 2022 College Theme

“Therefore prepare your minds for action”. 1 Peter 1:13

How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

Through the means of educating others I believe that it is a stepping stone for people to be able to follow required actions, if students are educated about issues and then given ways of positively contributing then it is up to the individual on if they want to do the right thing.

In one sentence what is the one thing that you would like to say to your fellow students?

Appreciate nature, heal it, help it, protect it, embrace it fully because it can benefit you  physically and mentally.

What do you see as your role as a leader?

I believe that the role of the environment captain, the role which I have been granted, is about working together with the community and acts as their voice for a call to arms, to demand a better future for not only ourselves but for the generations to come. I hope to embody the spirit and passion for the students and be able to work as one to make the necessary changes for the betterment of not only our school, but the world.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

One of the things that captivates me as a student of the St. Peter's College community is the searing passion that the students share amongst each other. In competitive events like the athletics and swimming carnivals, it's mesmerizing to see the community’s vehement dedication and support to uplift one another, it's just palpable.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

Though Jay Gatsby is only a fictional character, I often find myself marveling at his dedication and strong mindedness towards his goals. He desired a better life and was not afraid to take strides in working towards it, and was later working for years so he could try to reach and change something impossible. By the end he becomes a martyr for his dreams and goals, an embodiment of dedication and focus.

What are your goals as Captain in 2022?

The goals I have as the environment captain primarily revolve around changing the school's culture around litter and the environment to direct it into a more positive attitude. An example of this is getting the younger year levels more involved with environmental and green practices so that when they become seniors, their behavior and sentiments towards the environment  will set an example to the new generation about the standards everyone should hold. Also collaborating with the other captains to work on community projects is another idea that could engage a broader audience and bring the St. Peter’s College community closer.

How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

I aim to embody this statement through involvement with the community, getting the students engaged and partaking in activities that work to promote responsibility and consciousness of the environment around them. I see this message as a call to action, to seek change amongst our surroundings to create a better future.
