Dance Term 1

We have had an exciting and eventful start to the year in Dance at Dromana College.

  1. Dance Club is underway on a Tuesday morning (7:15 – 8:15 am) in the dance studio with Ms Johnson, Miss Downie and Miss Gibson. Students from Year 7 to Year 10 have been having fun learning a contemporary routine and a jazz routine.
  2. Wakakirri is also underway, rehearsing on  Thursdays after school this term. We will also be rehearsing on  Thursday lunchtimes next term too. Reheasal will be run by a group of student leaders; Liana, Alley, Bessie, Krystabel and Karis, this term has been a series of workshops when students have been learning short routines from different styles in order for the student team and teachers to evaluate student’s various strengths and see which sections of the production will best suit their style. The story is a historical journey of women in the workforce from the start of the 1900’s to the present day.
  3. We congratulate our new Dance captains for 2020:  Liana Samson-Piniata and Alley Rees!
  4. Monday 24th February our VCE Dance students travelled to the Melbourne Recital Center to watch Top Class 2020, a concert of some of the top year 12 VCE Dance solo’s from 2019.
  5. Red Hill Show – a group of our Dance club students performed a ‘flash mob’ style dance, using the music ‘What Time is It’ from High School Musical at the annual Red Hill Show! Their dancing was met with lots of enthusiastic audience members and students also had the opportunity interact with the local community and to enjoy the show while they were there.
  6. Last week we had our first ever ARTS WEEK! Dance se the ball rolling with our guest teacher “Paige Sutherland” running Hip Hop dance workshops for the VCE classes, in period 3, open to the whole school at lunch time and for the year 7 and 8 dance club members during period 4! These workshops were a great success – many thanks to Ms Dunphy for organizing this exciting incursion.

It is wonderful to see so many students enjoying the fabulous opportunities that Dance can bring to Dromana College.
