TIMELINE:

NOW: There is still time to organise a meeting in Careers to set up and create your VTAC account and start your course application process.

It is important to remember that some courses requiring Portfolios and Auditions do close much earlier than other courses and you may need to make a separate application for auditions and selection kits.

SOME EARLY CLOSING DATES:

Please note if you are applying for Fine Arts (all at University Melbourne), Medicine (Monash) and Photography (NCAT) that they have early closing dates. The University of Melbourne Fine Arts - Dance, Screenwriting, Film & Television and Animation closed on Saturday 31 August. All other Fine Arts, Medicine and Photography close as early as Monday 30 September.

No late applications will be accepted.

For individual dates please visit this VTAC

Link: http://vtac.edu.au/who/early-close.html

For interstate courses please check the individual state admission centres.

30 SEPTEMBER: Submit your timely course applications. You can continue changing your preferences even after you have submitted your application. It is also a good idea to have your SEAS applications submitted. VTAC will provide feedback if necessary if you submit them before the deadline.

11 OCTOBER: Last day to finalise your Scholarships and SEAS applications. I recommend these be prepared well in advance to avoid a last minute rush.

JANUARY 2020: Receive your results and finalise your preferences.  #Early January date to be confirmed but I will be talking more about this in due course.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to send me an email or make an appointment.

Scholarships to Study Abroad

Looking to study abroad but worried about the costs? Good news! There are hundreds of scholarships to study abroad, including general scholarships and more specialised funding schemes. Some are offered by government agencies, some by individual universities, and others by external funding organisations and charitable enterprises.

The Top Universities website is an excellent resource to learn more about what scholarships are on offer.  Students can search for region-specific scholarships or country-specific scholarships.  Students can even search for subject-specific scholarships.

Two Great Resources in the Office

Diploma of Teacher Education Preparation

The Diploma of Teacher Education Preparation (Dip TEP) is an accredited AQF5 level qualification aimed at students who do not initially meet the minimum ATAR for teaching.  The course has been developed as part of the Victorian Government’s Excellence in Teacher Education Reforms to ensure that disadvantage and diverse educational experiences are not a barrier to capable and committed people who want to pursue a career in teaching.

Successful completion of the Dip TEP will ensure that students graduate with the prerequisite knowledge and skills to undertake a rigorous undergraduate teacher education course.  The Dip TEP supports students to meet the literacy and numeracy standards they will need in order to graduate with a teaching qualification and supports them to meet the demands of study at a higher education level. The course introduces them to contemporary issues in education and to teaching as a profession, including practical school-based placement.

The course is offered by RMIT, VU Polytechnic and Swinburne

New Bachelor of Marine Science

Study Marine Science at Deakin’s Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus and you will gain essential knowledge and skills in ocean systems and resources through a multidisciplinary approach in the areas of marine microbiology and genomics, oceanography, coastal processes, marine modelling, marine biology, marine ecology, fisheries and aquaculture. This course will provide you with the skills required to join the greater marine science community using new marine technologies and innovative approaches to help protect and drive the sustainable future of the world’s oceans.

Photography Courses in Victoria

Photography courses are offered at a number of institutions in Victoria. Many of these courses are listed below.  Log onto VTAC to find out more about these courses and many others.

You can find this page in the Course matrix attachment.

Pathway Programs 2020

There are many different ways to get to the same destination, and that applies to university

too. Sometimes students do not quite meet the entry criteria to go straight into a university

course – maybe their ATAR was not high enough, or they did not attain the minimum study

score in a prerequisite subject. The encouraging thing is that many universities have

recommended pathway courses to degrees they offer. Below are some of these pathway schemes:

Incomplete Diploma? Queensland (QTAC)

"If you do not meet the requirements to be awarded the IB Diploma, we will still give your results a selection rank so long as you have completed a minimum of two IB Diploma Program courses/subjects (at either HL or SL)."

As per the table to follow we will:

  • Sum your marks for between two and six IB Diploma Program courses/subjects. (Marks reported on a scale where: N = no grade, I = very poor and 7 = excellent), then
  • Give the sum a selection rank.
