ICCES Cross Country Report
The College Cross Country team had a successful day at the ICCES cross country competition last week. The difficult course at Bundoora Park as well as some very tough competition provided an excellent challenge for our runners to really test themselves. We did exceptionally well to finish in 5th position overall with only 4 senior runners on the day.
Some better performers were Sam Crawford who finished 6th in the Junior boys age group, Niamh Sutherland, Hannah Russell and Louise Millear who finished 5th,6th and 10th respectively in the intermediate girls age group and Emily Johnston and Phoebe Sweeney who finished 7th and 9th in the Senior Girl’s age group.
Thank you to Mr Alexander and Bec West for all of their organisation on the day.
Well done to all runners for a great season!

The Division 1 Strikers were back to their ruthless best with a crushing 8-2 win over Coleraine Black. The girls were on top right from the start and apart from a 5 min lapse where Coleraine scored twice, they did not look threatened. Hannah Russell was everywhere and scored goals at will. Chloe Anderson and Chloe Russell have formed a formidable backline and with Ruby Cush, Isabelle Musson and Oliva Allen really finding form this team has to be premiership favourites. Shayleigh Ingelese and Maddi Mutch were also key players.
The Division 1 Thundersticks had a heart breaking loss to Monivae who scored off a short corner after the final whistle. Monivae scored early in the game and it was then catch up hockey for College. Gracie Austin scored early in the second half to level the score and then College took control of the game but were just unable to convert. Hannah Nichols, Nina Pern, Gracie Austin and Lucy Roberts were amongst the better players.
College Scorchers recorded a good win against Monivae in the Sunday game. This team is playing some great hockey with the “Oldies” really combining well with up and coming stars including Phoebe Russell, Chloe Lyons and Goalie Emily Ash.
There was great excitement at 1:50pm on Sunday where the College Blades finally recorded their first goal of the season through pocket rocket Natalie Feahterston. This side has conceded 47 goals and until Sunday’s game had not found the back of the net. The excitement reached fever pitch in the second half when netballer turned expert hockey player, Annabelle Mould scored Blades second goal of the season. The fact Monivae scored 3 goals was really irrelevant as the girls celebrated as if they had won Olympic Gold. It was declared the greatest 3-2 loss in the history of College hockey!

Schoolgirl's Netball Report 2017
On Monday the 24th of July, the school’s junior, intermediate and senior netball teams travelled to Warrnambool for the Netball Interschool championships. It was great to be indoors this year!
The junior girls played promisingly, although tournament nerves got to them in the beginning. They managed to come away with a number of wins in the following games and the improvement in the court play of the team was highly evident by the final game. There was some terrific individual performances and it is pleasing to note the potential in some of our players coming through.
The Year 9 and 10 team was a really competitive unit and consisted of a lot of highly talented girls. They had some hotly contested games, only losing by a small margin in one and drawing another. There were some lovely passages of play at times. They were up against some very strong attacking competition, with the defenses battling gallantly all day. I was really pleased to see the commitment to fight for the ball and to work hard on driving the ball strongly down the court.
The Year 11 and 12 girls came up against strong opposition and yet they were able to have results that were exceptionally close in every match, demonstrating their competitiveness. They defeated Warrnambool College in the second match by 2 goals, but lost the remaining games by just one or two each time. Our ball movement was fluent and passing was strong. The opportunity for intercepts were taken and we were able to score off these chances. Amy Boland and Nyah Bester, stepped in to fill the void of two Year 12s who were unavailable on the day, which was greatly appreciated, and they both performed strongly. The other girls also played at ICCES in Shepparton late in Term Two, and that match time showed clearly the way they managed to link smoothly. The versatility on the day, and the willingness of the girls to change positions was appreciated.
We had magnificent efforts from every team and it was very rewarding to watch some great netball with such a cohesive and willing bunch of girls. A lot of time was spent for selection and trainings and it proved worthwhile. I was particularly impressed by the dedication to training of the girls this year. Thank you to our coaches, Jody Roth, Emily Langley, and Sarah Langley (ICCES), who invested a lot of their own time into training and on the day, as well as our umpires Kathy Mibus, Susie Holcombe and Bonita Silva, who make the day happen for all the teams.
