Year 5 Library and the Climate Action Project:
This is a global project involving students of all ages from many different countries – most of them working within a classroom and not through limited access specialist time. Here is some of the work that has been done for the first of four weeks of education:
1. Welcome to the project from the organiser: Koen Timmers from Belgium (youtube clip)
2. Here you will find the first week's presentations and videos: search by continent then by country to find us!
3. Here you will see the pictures: and we have some there.
4. Our supporter is Mr Rob Drummond – you can find him here with some very illustrious company!
There will be so much information coming through this activity for the next month that we cannot hope to keep up within our Library lessons. We are hoping that students may have a look at some stage each week during other class time and maybe at home with you, their parents.
In the very near future we will be starting action to slow climate change down. We may call on families and other members of our College community to assist us.
So far it has been wonderful.
Book Club News:
Bookcrossings went into action again over the break. This is a book sharing project that runs
world-wide. From our first set of releases there has been one success story so far – a copy of Kite Runner was last seen leaving a bar in Venice! This time a book was left in the Casterton library by Kelly and another left in a wooden boat in a playground near the jetty at Port MacDonnell by Harley. Charlie’s is still in his bedroom! No one else has reported back.
Our first meeting for the term was well attended and it was great to hear what people had been reading or re-reading over the break.
This is an amazing group of mainly Year 6 boys, capably led by a Year 7 boy with students of both genders from Years 6 to 11 who are inclusive and welcoming to all attendees. It is one recess time I really look forward to!
eBooks – an Opportunity for Parents:
The regional library staff are meeting at Monivae next week to discuss all things relevant to our work. Farah Herbert, a representative from Wheelers, which is the eBook platform we provide to our Senior School students, will be presenting information about the platform. Parents who are interested to know more are invited to attend from 9.15 to 10am. Would love to see you there.
