Basketball News
During the holidays, a group of Under 12 boys travelled to Ballarat to play in the Basketball Club Championships. The team consisted of Cooper Bonnett, Nick Hoskyns, Charlie Beggs, Jake Tonissen, Tom O’Sullivan, George Huf, Jacob Butcher and Harry Austin. The team was coached by Andrew Hoskyns and managed by Jono Huf. The team played 4 games across the weekend, against teams from Ballarat, Geelong and Gisborne. Unfortunately, they were not able to secure a win, going down in all games, including a very close fought out game with Gisborne. The boys played competitive basketball all weekend, but lacked the height of some of their opponents. All players showed determination, courage, team work and sportsmanship across the weekend and improved their skills with each game. All players finished the tournament being mentioned in the statistics sheets for baskets scored, with Nick Hoskyns finishing equal second for 3 point shots. The competition was a great experience for all. I would like to commend all the boys for their efforts, sportsmanship and representation of the College. I would also like to thank Andrew Hoskyns for coaching, Jono and Karen Huf for managing the team, Chantal Butcher for assisting with training prior to the tournament and all parents who assisted in any way across the weekend.
Also, congratulations to the following students who have been selected to play in Hamilton representative basketball squads or development squads: Tom O’Sullivan, Nick Hoskyns, Jason Hawker, Bayley te Boekhorst, Jackson Nolte, Kairangi Hunt, Olivia Rees, Jedah Huf, Cooper Bonnett, Lachie Rees, Jock Barrie and George Huf.
