Middle Years

At the end of Term 3 our Year 7 students were invited to apply for the 2018 Middle Years House Captains positions. I am delighted with the applications and we will be conducting informal interviews with the Head of House over the next week. Our new myPEC leaders will be heading to Melbourne for the Halogen Young Leaders’ Day in Melbourne on Monday 13th November.

Term 4 is always busy and I would encourage students to get organised from the start of term. There are camps for Year 6-9 and it is important to factor this into study routines. The examinations are approaching and I recommend that students start compiling their notes and revising from Week 4, this gives them a good amount of preparation time. I have been helping a number of classes with their organization, and I have reminded students of the need to spend time getting organised.

Being an organised student can save you time in the long run. Here are some helpful suggestions;·Use your Record Book properly

  • Make sure you keep informed  - be aware of assessment dates
  • Have a simple filing system - It's helpful to set up a filing system at the start of term so that you don't end up with lots of filing and organising to do before assessments and exams. You could try getting manila folders and keeping class notes, handouts in it. Use your OneNote to help with revision. Throw out unwanted sheets that are no longer relevant to your learning.
  • Back up your work - Safeguard your own work by always making copies of important files to your own USB stick or the cloud.
  • Make a term plan - A useful way to get a visual overview of your commitments and to plan your time is to write yourself a term plan.
  • Write a weekly summary - Schedule your study times in advance by writing yourself a weekly timetable. This will help you to allocate specific time for studying, sport, free time.
  • Get enough sleep, and have good bedtime routines. It important to be well rested and alert. Pack bags the night before to allow a smooth transition in the morning.
