Junior School Administration Office
During the September/October holidays, the Junior School Office has undergone significant changes with the installation of a new administration desk. Cooper Scaife Architects worked in conjunction with Unicraft Joinery to develop the ergonomically designed and stylish workspace.
Discover the Magic
On the last Thursday of Term Three, 23 visiting students joined our Prep to Year 5 classes for a ‘Discover the Magic’ day. It was a huge success with our visitors making new friends, enjoying classroom activities and joining in the fun of our annual ‘Footy Colours Day’.
Additional Laptops
The Junior School has recently been the recipient of 15 laptops from the Senior School. These welcome additions have been positioned in the Year 4 and Year 5 classrooms, bringing the student/computer ratio close to 1 to 1. Thanks to Mr Peter Steer, Mr Ian Cook and Mr Mitchell Clode for their efforts in configuring the devices.
Piccolo Full Day Programme
In Week Five of last term we announced the expansion of the Piccolo programme to a full day. The uptake was excellent and this term we have 8 students participating in the full day option. The Early Learning Centre staff are a fabulous team of early years educators and we look forward to the Piccolo programme continuing to grow and evolve.
Inquiry Planners
Over the past few months the Junior School staff have been working with Mrs Anna Robertson in her additional role as a curriculum consultant. We have revamped our Inquiry planners to incorporate the ‘5 Es’ instructional model. This is based on the constructivist approach to learning, which says that learners build or construct new ideas on top of their old ideas. The 5 E's can be used with students of all age. Each of the 5 E's describes a phase of learning, and each phase begins with the letter "E": Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. The 5 E's allows students and teachers to experience common activities, to use and build on prior knowledge and experience, to construct meaning, and to continually assess their understanding of a concept.
