Senior Cricket at College
As the AGM for the College Cricket Club is fast approaching, I am writing to seek expressions of interest from junior players and parents who may want to play senior cricket in season 2018/2019.
Last season, the club fielded teams in the A and C Grade competition. The club would love to field a team in the D Grade competition also if there is the interest. Training will be held on Thursday nights and games will be played on a Saturday.
If you would like to play senior cricket, or would like to know more about playing senior cricket with the College Cricket Club this upcoming season can you please get in touch via e-mail.

JUNIOR GIRLS’ FOOTBALL REPORT
Last Monday 24 Year 8 and 9 girls set off to the cold and windy Pedrina Park to play against the other schools around Hamilton to win the District Girls’ Footy Trophy. The day started well, with all the girls keen to get muddy. The first team we played was the Monivae Blue team, and because there were no half or quarter times and it was such a windy day we had to win the toss to get the wind on our side, which is what we did. We proved too strong for them winning without them scoring. We won the rest of the games against Hawkesdale and Good Sheperd/ Balmoral convincingly, and we also had a bye when was good to regroup and to work out strategies for the other games. The last team we played was Casterton. We were both undefeated coming into our last game. Unfortunately, with the wind against us, we couldn’t get the ball down to our forward line and finished with a loss. That was the grand final but because Casterton didn’t play as many games as the other teams both schools were announced equal winners.
It was a great day, and I would to thank Mr Alexander for coaching, Seth Fiegert for running and managing, Fergus Roberts and Charlie Johnston for boundary umpiring and goal umpiring. All girls played exceptionally well, but better players on the day were Grace Austin, Lucy Roberts, Maddie Green, Bridget Delany, Millie Dopheide and Airlie Bowes.
SENIOR GIRLS FOOTBALL REPORT
Last Wednesday, 19 Year 10-12 girls and I caught the bus over to Pedrina Park to try and win(for the second year in a row) the Senior Girls’ Footy Shield. The games were two 9-minute halves which allowed both teams to get an even chance at scoring. Fortunately, the was no wind, but the ground was extremely wet and muddy. First up we played our arch rivals Monivae. Erin Powell our captain won the toss and this got our first game off and running. Our pressure on the ground and teamwork around the ball allowed us to get our first win. With no bye the girls all played exceptional footy in the hard and heavy conditions. We played the following teams throughout the day - Baimbridge, Good Sheperd and Heywood. The last game we played was against Casterton: we won the toss and got a great start and Casterton couldn’t keep up. We had been undefeated through the whole day, and were overall winners, with Claudia Roberts being awarded the best on ground medallion for College.
It was a fantastic day for the girls, who show some great potential to become future stars! I would like to thank Seth Fiegert for coaching and providing some great speeches, Miss Waldron for managing, Ben McCure and Zac Cunningham for boundary and goal umpiring. The girls played extremely well with better players being Chloe Anderson, Kate Jessop, Erin Powell, Sophie Hines, Lily McCure and Hannah Nichols.
Mitzi Adamson (Captain of Year 7-9 Girls’ Football Team)

Mitzi was awarded the best player medallion for the Year 7-9 team.

College Thundersticks recorded their 5th win in a row with an impressive 3-0 victory over Coleraine. In surprisingly mild conditions last Friday night the girls hit their straps right from the start with Phoebe Sweeney putting home the first goal. Hannah Nichols played a selfless game marking Coleraine’s key player. Phoebe Sweeney hit the back of the net for a second time and Claudia Roberts put the game beyond doubt with a clever goal in the second half. Charlotte Boyd-Walsh played her best game of the year and Emily Ash was as solid as a rock in goal, saving a number of Coleraine’s chances.
Better Players: Katie Budenberg, Hannah Nichols, Lily McCure, Charlotte Boyd-Walsh, Emily Ash.
A Grade Strikers
This weekend’s game proved to be one of the toughest games for the season so far, with Dunkeld’s defensive side proving to be quite the barrier, forcing us to rely more on our team work and fast, accurate passing. At half time the strikers were up 1-0 with Izzy Musson scoring with a beautiful tomahawk. Our teamwork was then recalibrated at half time and we persisted to walk away with a 3-0 win with our goal scorers being Izzy Musson, Phoebe and Chloe Russell. With standout performances from Chloe Russell creating space and switching the ball across the backline, Erin Powell through the mid field and Maddy Mutch battling it into the D almost every time.
(Report by Shayleigh Ingelse)
B Grade Blades bounced back after their big loss last week, this week losing narrowly to Monivae. The Blades had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds with Millie Davidson missing the goal by millimeters. Well done to Millie Dopheide for bravely donning the goalie gear. Natalie Fetherstone was wonderful scoring both the Blades’ goals. Bridget Delaney worked hard all afternoon and Jordy Brown and Georgie Snodgrass also played well. It is great to see Susie Holcombe back on the pitch after an extended break.
In sideways rain and hail the B Grade Scorchers went down 4-1 to top of the table Demons. The girls managed the conditions very well but Demons were simply too strong and too experienced. Better players were Lucy Roberts, Amy Boland, Chloe Lyons and Emily Ash in goals.

Boys' Hockey
The two Under 16 sides recorded wins at the weekend although both left the field feeling they have work to do ahead of their clash this weekend.
Gold defeated Monivae 8-2 with solid contributions coming from Harry Mould, Jack Austin, Jock Adamson and Zac Cunningham. It was good to see Gabe Marshall’s continuing improvement as goalkeeper at this level as he made a couple of good saves.
Blue scored a 6-0 win over Demons-Coleraine. Tane Nelson, Euan Sutherland, Eren Zehir and Finley McLindin caught the eye in this game. Our opponents have been badly hit by injuries and included some new faces in their line-up. Amongst these, it was good to see Jordy Brown playing well.
The Open team encountered an enhanced Monivae squad and struggled to play their usual game for much of the contest. Fortunately, the final ten minutes saw us fashion some fast forward breaks with effective short passes and strong running and we were rewarded with two late goals to record a 4-2 victory. Jono Lee scored our first and very nearly added a first half second in his best game of the season; Ferg Roberts scored two goals, the second a lovely poised effort after very good build-up work by several team-mates; and Reagan Simons found the net at a penalty corner. Lach Holcombe and Sami Zehir were strong runners all night and Dougal Sweeney worked hard at a new role.
Three good wins but plenty of work to do for each team as finals approach.
