community

As a PE teacher and an avid sports fan I look forward to Whole School Sports Day more than any other day on the school calendar, but sadly this year COVID has taken that away from me. But fear not BNWPS! On Friday 11th of September the BNWPS community are invited to compete in the IsOlympic Games, where you can put your PE skills to the test against your peers in order to win points for your House team and help them be victorious on the day.

When: Friday 11th of September. It will be a learning free day just like Whole School Sports Day to encourage all families to get involved.

Where: Your living room, backyard, driveway or local park. Wherever you can complete the events! Just remember to comply with the current Stage 4 DHHS restrictions.

How: On Friday 11th of September, compete in each event and record your best score, send through your results to Tom via Seesaw or Google Classroom. Scores will be tallied throughout the day, with winners of each event announced at the end of the day during assembly.

Tune into BNWPS_radio throughout the day for score updates, teacher and student interviews and some great tunes to get you up and active!

There will be a ‘Beat Tom’ competition happening throughout the day where you can earn bonus points for your House team if you are able to beat Tom’s score in any of the events.

The next two weeks of PE lessons will be used as training to prepare for the day's events, so make sure you check those lessons so you are fully prepared for the day. Practice doesn’t make perfect, Perfect practice makes perfect!

Missing you all so much!

2020. Yikes.

Sadly the cancellation of many of our events, both big and small - such as our much loved Winter Magic Market, Whole School Sports Day and the Plant & Produce Markets has resulted in the loss of not just these wonderful events that strengthen our community but also the opportunity to raise funds for our beautiful school.

BNWPS has always been good at putting the fun in fundraising. The IsOlympics will conclude on the weekend with a walkathon come scavenger hunt.  The aim is to continue the active theme, share the BNWPS community spirit, have some fun and maybe even raise a few dollars for the school along the way.... all whilst strictly complying with current Stage 4 DHHS restrictions.

When: 1 hour (at a time of your choice) on either Saturday 12th or Sunday 13th September

Where: your local streets

How: there are lots of ways to get involved at a level that suits your family

  • WALK/RUN/SCOOT/RIDE/SKIP along one of the predetermined routes (maps available soon) or along your own route.
  • Nominate a distance, seek DONATIONS and share the GoFundMe page with friends and family.
  • Find and decorate a STICK in your house colour (no plastic please) to carry on your walk so other BNWPS families can spot you. You may also like to dress up in your house colour or in a fun costume.
  • The predetermined route MAPS will include scavenger hunt items e.g. local landmarks, footpath chalk art and the location of a stick cubby drop off point at Jacobs, Dunstan and Shore Reserves. If you are outside the 5km radius feel free to set up your own drop off point, scavenger hunt or chalk activities. Tell others about it on the community Facebook page  or email CET.
  • If you live along one of the routes, decorate your house or cheer on participants from your front yard.
  • Tune into BNWPS_Radio to keep your feet moving!
  • Share your PHOTOS on the Kudoboard or community Facebook page

We encourage you all to join in whichever way you can – bring some Spring into your Steps and BNWPS to the streets. You can’t stop to chat with other families, but a friendly stick wave is a start.

It is everyone’s responsibility to understand and strictly adhere to the current DHHS Coronavirus (COVID19) Stage 4 restrictions during the event. They can be found at http://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au

Look out for additional information (like the optional route maps) via email, on Sentral & the BNW Facebook page.

Great Bounce Relay

Can we keep a ball bouncing for 5 hours? This is your challenge for the GREAT BNWPS BOUNCE RELAY!

We will need hundreds of BNWPS students to commit to bouncing a ball for ONE minute each.

This will be the collective school challenge for the first day of the Isolympics, on Friday the 11th of September.

Practise your ball bouncing, make up a Bounce Beat and we will open the sign up sheet next week!

BNWPS Community Experts Week!

*Last week of Term 3

The students, teachers and some families have told us they are missing incursions and excursions, these events make school an even more exciting space to learn. So we are looking for ways to bring these extra experiences to the children - and what a better way than from you! We are excited to be able to connect with the amazing talent and expertise in our community! Please note that is completely voluntary and is an offering for those in the community who wish to be involved.

In the final week of Term 3 (14th-17th September), the whole school will be taking part in Community Experts Week in which students will have the chance to learn from and engage with a variety of lessons and videos created by you, our community experts!

Your expertise could be anything! Something you do for your career or something you do as a hobby. It could be teaching the kids a new skill, broadening their knowledge in a certain area, or even just something plain fun!

To help us get organised could all expressions of interest be in by Tuesday 1st of September.

It would be appreciated if the relevant materials for your lesson (instructions/video/equipment students will need etc) are submitted to us by Wednesday the 9th of September so we can help students prepare themselves. Details for how to submit these will be provided next week.

Thank You from BNW Staff

A big thank you to the McEwen-Perovich family for baking us this wonderful cake. Nothing like a good sugar fix to keep the silly vibes alive.
