#GigAWeek Lunchtime Concert Series

The stream of spectacular performances have continued over the past few weeks in the #GigAWeek lunchtime concert series. Despite some threatening weather, Year 12 band The Zingers entertained a huge crowd on the Senior Oval in Week 4, adding to the already pulsating atmosphere of the 800m runs. The weather did get in the way in Week 5, however, for the debut performance by Year 11 band Galaxy Street in the Xanten Theatre, but the crowd got just as involved in support of a great gig. Mr Mitchell Martin, current pre-service teacher at St Norbert College and ex-WAAPA student, was our guest artist for Week 6, performing a range of originals and covers in Hugh Court (Year 8 Area) and drawing in a large crowd of staff and students.

We look forward to four more weeks of awesome performances over the coming weeks including more from The Zingers and 14:25, a dance-dedicated lunchtime concert run by Ms Alban and the Canons Hip Hop Crew as well as Theatre Sports with Ms Hilton and selected Year 10 & 12 Drama students. Get excited SNC!

NEWS FROM THE CATHEDRAL

St Mary's Cathedral’s Music Program encourages the development of young musicians, providing them with opportunities to develop skills in Church music - and to build their faith discovering the riches of the Church’s musical heritage.

The connection the Cathedral has to St Norbert College goes back quite some time - the very first Organ Scholar (appointed in 2009) was indeed Mr Chadwick Beins, now Director of Music at St Norbert College.

In conjunction with our Organ Scholarship, we also have a Young Organists program providing young piano players to experience the pipe organ, and build their skill level both musically and as liturgical musicians. We are very pleased that Ethan Ricafranca, a former St Norbert College student, is part of this program. A small group of St Norbert’s students also took part in our 2019 Orchestral Mass - we look forward to their being part of our next Orchestral Mass - and hearing Ethan’s progress on the pipe organ!
