Looking for Silver Linings

As an F-2 staff member, along with saying goodbye to this term, I am also lucky enough to be saying goodbye to remote learning (well… almost!). I cannot overstate how excited we are to be returning back to the classroom!

While there is no question that remote learning has been incredibly challenging in so many different ways for staff, students and families, the optimist in me is looking for the positives- and I have to say, there have definitely been some silver linings!

Throughout the remote learning period I have watched students ‘Be The Teacher’, be activists in our community, brighten up the days/lives of others through small gestures, think critically, manage technology and problem solve. I have also seen students build on and showcase their creativity, independence, resilience, patience and confidence.

I have seen families working together, sticking together, adapting together, learning and playing together.

I have seen staff supporting each other, working outside their comfort zones, innovating, and striving to foster strong, positive relationships with students and families.

I have heard more from ‘quiet’ or ‘shy’ students than I ever expected to, have seen the joy face-to-face communication brings, and have witnessed how strong our schooling community is. Don’t get me wrong, this hasn’t been easy, but it has been a learning experience for all involved.

So, while some of us are lucky to be leaving remote learning behind, we will take memories, learnings and new skills with us back to the classroom. And maybe our slippers too…

Thanks,

Jess Brown

WHAT A WONDERFUL TERM!

We made it! It’s the last day of Term Three! Hip-hip-hooray! While we celebrate the end of another fantastic term of work in the Middle School, it is also important to take some time to reflect on our learning and think about how we have grown and changed in that time.

It has been a busy and productive term in KM. As well as doing all our usual studies, we’ve had the remote learning equivalent to Camp Week, (where children created flying foxes for their toys/made damper/told spooky stories and performed in a Variety Show)and of course, this week’s fabulous Expert Week (where children participated in a range of lessons from learning to speak and write Urdu to learning about grain production in Australia). But, enough from me, here is what the students in KM have to say about Term 3!

Personal Strengths gained this term-

Rayma- I think I used my time well because I got all my work done  and then I had a break each day.

Arenys- I found out I’m really good at clay-making.

Elodie- maths and wall sit

Abby- That I can do anything I set my mind to, even if it scares me

Best parts about Remote Learning-

Rayma- My favourite part of home learning is choosing when I do each subject because I work alot better if I want to do that subject at that time. I don't have to do it at a certain time.

Moksha- BNWPS radio!

Ari- Whole school sports day, camp week and experts week were my favourite.

Favourite Camp Week Experience-

Odette- I like a treasure hunt (maths).

Moksha- Camping! We cooked damper and sat around the campfire and it was really fun!!!

Ari- Talent show i loved Luc’s bike tricks.

Poppy- Making the s’mores

Favourite Expert Week Activities-

Baxter- Making sushi

Eliza and Luc- The minecraft activities

Odette- The drumroll please scones (make afternoon tea ☕️).

Thanks,

Kate
