Year 4

Specialists

The Year 4 students have been enjoying the introduction of live Specialist lessons. They have been dancing up a storm in preparation for their Learning Task, 'Dance Monkey'.

Check out 4C and 4D practising their routine on Teams with their Physical Education teacher Mrs Jones.

Inquiry

For the past two weeks Year 4’s have been preparing their group Sways in answer to two “big burning questions”. We are very proud of how the students have taken to the technology and collaborative environment – well done grade 4’s!

This is the second part of their exhibition – a collaborative task that will be ready for viewing next week, along with their individual investigations that were completed in Week 7. Some of the investigation into how body systems are affected include, but are not limited to:

Extreme exercise or diet

Smoking and pollution

Isolation

Sedentary lifestyle

Gaming for long periods without a break

Car collision

Children are using all the features of Sway, to present an informative creative page to the school community. They have been working collaboratively in Teams (guided by their Mentor Teachers) over the past two weeks in small groups to gather research and bring their findings together.

Thanks to Miss Tilley for combining it all for us into one big exhibition Sway. We look forward to the finished product next week!

Literacy

Literacy has been exciting the last couple of weeks. We have been crafting letters to our prep buddies for 2021! Thank you to the office ladies who are printing them out for us this week and sending them off to the kinder kids soon!

We continue to be busy with Informative Text. Children are becoming experts at proof reading, editing and re-working their writing to suit the purpose. This week they are bringing their entire persuasive text together after constructing it over the past few weeks in parts.

We’re continuing to stay informed with BTN and KidsNews. Students are learning to respond to questions in full sentences and re-tell a story to another orally. In reading this week we have been focusing on Comprehension. We are looking at the author’s purpose which is as easy as PIE!

Maths and STEM

We are coming to the end of our work on division and next week look forward to an exciting Science Incursion presented by Port Phillip EcoCentre - Tuesday 15 September at 9.15am. This is a live interactive incursion on ZOOM that will require all our students to have access to a device with zoom downloaded. Please look out for the Compass notification with the link arriving soon. It will also be posted in your child’s double classroom team to access. Thanks Mrs Graham for organising this experience for our Year 4’s.

Last Week of Term

On Friday 18 September we would like grade 4’s to join in the fun and wear their footy colours for the last day of term. Grab your scarf, beanie or footy jumper or just dress in your team’s colours to celebrate footy finals approaching – albeit a little differently this year!  Just make sure it’s all yellow and black😉!
