Term 2, 2020 Copperfield College

This term I never thought that we would be learning from home. It was a new way of learning and it took me a while to get used to all of it. I really enjoyed learning from home and it was fun seeing some of the teachers wearing gaming headsets during a webex meeting. There were so many positives about online learning but I miss going to school and seeing all of my friends.

The things that I enjoyed about home learning was being able to relax, being in an environment that I was used to while learning at the same time. Like before home learning even started, I wasn’t really allowed to relax or get cozy at school like it was really unusual for me and other students to relax and get cozy during class. But during home learning I could get cozy under my blankets, snuggle up when it was cold and I could look as messy as possible and no one would question about it. I was able to relax and take breaks frequently because they were really useful for me as there was a lot of work to be done. Lastly, I was in an environment that I was used to and I could concentrate better in. For example, when we were at school it was really hard for me to concentrate and get my work done because most of the people in my class would talk to each other rather than getting the work done. Which was really annoying and during home learning, I was able to concentrate a lot better and be able to get work done on time with a good effort into my work.

The things that I didn’t really enjoy about home learning was not being able to see my friends in person and only over webex meetings, having to be on my laptop a lot more than usual and getting used to the different times. An example is that it's different not being able to see my friends face to face and I really missed that rather than video chat or calling them due to the pandemic that’s going on. Hopefully that is able to happen again and get to see them face to face and it is!!! I was having to be on my laptop a lot more than usual and I was spending on this device more than any other device that I had. The sucky part was that I kept on charging my laptop a lot more which is not good as it will raise the cost of electrical bills. Many households would probably have a rise in their bills because they are using appliances a lot more than before. What is happening with the world today? A lot. The thing that got me the most confused was the different times. For example, I kept on getting the day Wednesday mixed up. Especially with the breaks and when Period 3 started. I had to remember that period 3 started at 12pm and finished at 1pm and for the first time I was late because I was still confused with the times. But then eventually I got used to it and remembered when each period started on Wednesdays other days.

Overall, home learning was quite fun and a new way of learning in 2020. Even though I miss all of my friends and get to see them very soon, it is actually better if you want to work in peace and quiet. But to see friends and your teachers in person you have to go to school to see them face to face.

B Team News

B team students did an amazing job working from home.  They showed resilience and a positive attitude towards their studies.  Teachers and students learnt some valuable skills which will definitely be carried forward into face to face classes.  In light of that, students are expected to continue bringing a laptop to every class as many teachers are still requesting digital submissions for work, so please make sure that your child brings their laptop.  Please continue to encourage them to respect social distancing and hygiene rules.

We know it is cold in the mornings, but that is not an excuse to be out of uniform.  Our uniform provides plenty of warmth as it is woollen.  Students continually out of uniform without a good reason and a note from home will need to do detentions.  If you have any queries and concerns, please contact B team leaders.

B and K Team News

Firstly I would like to congratulate our school community for how well we quickly transitioned to online learning. I am very proud of how the students and teachers demonstrated resilience and engaged in a very different world for teaching and learning.

With the return to face to face teaching, it is also the beginning of the cold and flu season.  Please remember that if your child is feeling unwell, please keep him/her home. We have put in safety precautions to stop the spread of the virus, this includes sanitisers in every room etc. Students have already participated in activities to reinforce our return to school matrix; learning expected behaviours about how we can keep safe. If your child is feeling anxious about returning to school, please let the Team Leaders or myself know and we can make referrals to wellbeing.

School may appear a little different at the moment with the cancellation of excursions, incursions, exams, Naplan etc. Teachers are making sure that they are still providing engaging activities for the students. Year 10s have an online incursion from Vic Roads in week 10. There is also an online pathways information session for our current year 9s on Tuesday the 16th June.

As the temperature drops, students are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather.  Families need to consider buying their child the long sleeved/legged versions of the school uniform, if they haven’t already done so.  The College navy blue scarf is the only type allowed to be worn. Please note: hoodies, beanies and gloves are not permitted.

Thank you to students, staff and parents for all of your support.
