Year 9 Drama Monologues

Students in Year 9 Drama continued to perform their monologues last week. There were some outstanding performances and it was a wonderful opportunity for students to share their work. All students worked hard on controlling their voice and physicality and in bringing ‘truth’ to each character’s plight. Actors are often thought to be ‘over the top’ in their personalities, but actually it takes a lightness of touch and thoughtful nature to embody the thoughts and feelings of another human being and to truthfully step into their shoes.

Year 12

Due to our Covid-19 situation the external Group Performance was unfortunately cancelled for the Class of 2020. This is a very important part of our syllabus and one that students look forward to for many years. In the Drama Elective in Years 9 - 11 we are playbuilding and devising every year in order to gain the skills to create this original 8-12 minute play in Year 12.

Fortunately, NESA gave us the opportunity to work on an internal Group Performance and our 8 HSC students performed their plays to a small audience on Friday. One play was influenced by the demonstrations in Hong Kong and the fight for freedom. The other play explored the pressures placed upon young men, their friendships and what might happen under the burden of these issues if they are not dealt with.
