Secondary Year 11

Term 2

Year 11 students had to have their camp cancelled only days before they were due to leave and to their credit, aside from being quite disappointed, coped with the change and moved on demonstrating great maturity.  They faced another disappointment with the postponement of their Presentation Ball but are all pleased to know that it will still go ahead for them in May 2021.

In class their Work Related Skills placements were all put on hold and new ways for the students to practise their new found skills had to be found.

Our Basic Office Skills group were unable to continue with their community cleaning contract but were still able to practise their office skills completing jobs around the school, making deliveries and ensuring the school’s paper recycling program continued. Students also practiced answering telephone calls and studied interview skills.

Our Horticulture group continued with the beautification of our space by potting up and decorating  some fantastic hanging baskets.

The Earn and Learn group explored the expectations of living independently and working within a set budget.  They were unable to go to their Work placement at Endeavour Industries, so received a ‘Virtual’ Jobseeker payment to work with as their income. Quite an eye opening experience for some.

Finally, due to the new restrictions placed on sharing food, our extremely successful Coffee Business became more focussed on the requirements of running a small business.
