Welcome to 2023
2023 promises to be another sensational year in Music and the Performing Arts. Ensembles and choir rehearsals are underway for the year. Please check KCEE and the Music Notice Board for any updates to the program.
I encourage all students learning an instrument to be part of an ensemble or choir. We would also like to welcome Ms Sarah Bouquet and Ms Cai Kay as our new piano teachers and Mr Stefan Nocevski as our new trumpet teacher.
Friday Afternoon Soirees
Friday afternoon Soirees will recommence in Term 1 (dates yet to be confirmed). The Soirees will be held in PVC7 from 3.45 to 4.30pm. All Music, Dance and Speech and Drama students are welcome to perform, as well as students who attend external lessons.
Notification of Soiree dates and booking procedures will be advertised in the next edition of In the Know.
Jazz Cabaret Evening
The Jazz Cabaret evening is booked in for Friday 31 March at the Glen Eira Town Hall. Our senior performance groups from Years 9 to 12 will be performing. If you would like to perform a solo item, please check details in the Music Bulletin in the coming weeks and speak to Ms Slater about accompaniment.
Senior School Production - Oliver
Rehearsals for the Kilvington Senior School Production of Oliver have commenced. All students involved will be working incredibly hard for two nights after School each week. Performances will be held in Dalton Hall on Thursday May 18, Friday May 19 and Saturday May 20.
Kadenza Beginner Band – new members welcome
I would like to encourage any new students to the School and the Year 5 Band program students from 2022 to join the Kadenza Band. Kadenza is a concert band aimed at students who have been learning music for two years or less.
Students are assisted with their playing by Music Mentors from Senior levels. The band rehearses each Thursday from 3.45 – 4.30pm in PVC7. All students are welcome to attend. Rehearsals commence next week. Please contact Mr Chris Higgins for further details at higginsc@kilvington.vic.edu.au.
Contemporary choir – new members welcome
Contemporary choir is open to all students from Years 7 to 12. The choir rehearses on a Friday before school at 7.30am in PVC7 in the Music School. The repertoire is fun and engaging and are songs that everyone knows.
Krooners (boys choir) – new members welcome
The Krooners is open to all boys from Years 7 to 12. The choir rehearses on Wednesday mornings at 7.30am in PVC9. The Krooners is a great environment for boys to come together to sing and build comradery. Please contact Ms Nicole Bull for further details at bulln@kilvington.vic.edu.au.
Music Student Achievements
Ryan Lu
Ryan Lu from Year 3S received a high distinction (A+) for his first AMEB Violin Repertoire 3rd Grade exam at the end of last year. Ryan learned the 3rd Grade violin in just over one term and also performed his entire program from memory. Well done Ryan!
Edgar Chen
Congratulations to Year 11 student, Edgar Chen, who has been offered a position in the Flagship Melbourne Youth Orchestra (MYO) of the MYO ensembles this year. Edgar has been invited by the MYO to perform with the orchestra in a curtain-raiser for the MSO Sidney Myer Music Bowl concert on February 18, 2023. Well done Edgar!
Student Achievements is a regular segment in our newsletter. Please let the Music Department know of any student achievements in Performing Arts such as a performance in an Eisteddfod, dance competition, a part in a dramatic play or a performance in the wider community.
