2023 STAFFING

In term 4 we undertake our workforce planning in preparation for the coming school year. This year has presented some challenges in finalising our planning as the education industry, like most industries, is experiencing a significant labor shortage. 

Pre-covid a full-time class teacher position would attract at least a dozen applicants, however this year schools in our district are finding the number of applicants is very low and, at times schools have received no applications at all! We recently advertised two class teacher positions. We managed to fill one of these positions, however we are re-advertising the second position as we received no new applicants. We will be interviewing applicants for this second position on Monday 19th Dec. 

As usually occurs, we have some movement in staffing that takes place at this time of year. Below is a summary of staff movement at this time:

• Lauren Goss: Lauren was the successful applicant for a class teacher position at Newstead PS for 2023.
• Joshua Ball: Josh is taking 12 months leave to take up a teaching position at Creek St PS in Bendigo in 2023. 
• Kate Ward: After 3 terms this year as Acting Principal at Talbot PS, Kate will be returning to Castlemaine PS in 2023 as Leading Teacher.
• Jessica Woodman: Jess was the successful applicant for a recently advertised 12 month contract here at Castlemaine PS. Jess will join us in the junior school in 2023.
• Teacher X: We currently have re-advertised a 12 month teacher contract as we had no applicants the first time around. We are hopeful a suitable applicant can be found through interviews to be held on 19th December.
• Tracy Adamson: Tracy had a short-term contract as a classroom aide which finishes at the end of 2022. Tracy will now return to her school, Campbells Creek in 2023.
• Amaya Osborne-Macpherson: Amaya will be returning from family leave in 2023 and will work 2 days per week sharing a class with Kate Ward.
• Nola Juniper: Nola is currently on Long Service Leave and will return in term 2, 2023.
• Brianna Brown: Bree will be with us in semester 1, 2023 and is intending to take leave in semester 2, 2023.

Parents will of course want to know who will be their child's teacher in 2023. Below is a list of current teacher allocations and the proposed class structure for next year. Parents will be informed of their child's allocated class and teacher next Friday when semester 2 reports are released.

note: This class structure will have an impact on planned camps in 2023. The senior camp will now consist of grades 4-6 and the middle school camp will consist of grades 2-3. See  Camps Program for 2023 elsewhere in this newsletter.
