Frankston Primary School French Day

On Wednesday 12 October, several Year 9 students volunteered to assist Frankston Primary School with their French Day celebrations. Nine of our students assisted in the running of games and activities to help the primary children practice their French speaking and vocabulary.  Well done to Lily Annis, Brian Biju, Edward Hughes, Zak Meo, Ada Pickersgill, Tony Thomas, Saiman Upreti, Riya Vithayathil and Alan Zhu for sharing their knowledge and being great roles models in our community.

Cape Schanck and Portsea Coastal Management Fieldtrip

Coastal lands have been populated and exploited faster than any other regions in Australia. Frankston High School’s Middle School Environmental Geography students, accompanied by Ms Jackie Evans and Mrs Cheryl Hodgson recently participated on an excursion to the beautiful Cape Schanck National Park and the Portsea Pier to collect fieldwork data and complete field sketching, focusing on the natural and human induced environmental change and coastal management in these areas. The weather was perfect, and a fun day exploring was experienced by all.

National Schools Civics and Citizenship Convention

C

ongratulations to Molly Flanders (Year 10) who participated in the National Schools Civics and Citizenship Convention for Year 9 and 10 students. Molly was one of 30 students chosen to represent Victoria and was among 103 students from around Australia who participated in the Convention which was held in Canberra and across various state and territory hubs on Thursday 27 October. Molly attended the Victorian hub at the Windsor Hotel.

Emeritus Professor John Warhurst AO facilitated the Convention in which students explored the topic ‘Should Australia have compulsory voting?'. After hearing from three experts and considering the main issues in working groups, Molly and other delegates unanimously voted on the topic, with 88% agreeing we should have compulsory voting.

The conference was honoured to have Senator Susan Lines, President of the Senate, making time on the day to accept the draft Communiqué.  The vote outcome was included in the Communiqué which was presented to the President of the Senate for inclusion in Hansard.

Congratulations Molly on representing Frankston High and Victoria at the Convention.
