Around Our School

New Students Breakfast

On the first day of Early Commencement, 28 November, the SLC ran a New Students Breakfast to welcome the new students and help them with their integration into the school community.  The event involved current SLC members interacting and meeting the new students with the hopes that they would get to know some faces around the school, as well as know who they could come to in the school yard with any questions they may have.

The breakfast was an absolute success and could not have been done without the help of Mrs Hogg, Ms Wilson, Mrs Bahramis, and Ms Donegan.  The SLC hopes to continue this event in the future and help new students feel as welcome as possible.

Middle School Innovation Class

Throughout the end of Term 3 and the first couple weeks of Term 4, the Middle School Innovation class was given the task of creating a food business with a budget of $10 per person.  We had to make a report with information about our product, costs, promotion, personal goals we would like to achieve and finally put all ideas into a presentation.

We then had the awesome opportunity to pitch our food businesses to a panel of business experts which included Mr Rob McKenzie the business owner of ‘Down the Street’.  It was great to hear about Mr McKenzie’s experiences and it was great getting some feedback from him on how we all could in improved our business ideas. Mrs Sally Sanderson, the head of Business Management played a huge part in being on the panel giving us feedback on our presentation and pitches.

Thank you also to our teacher Mrs Sarah Bahramis for teaching us all the knowledge and setting us up for these pitches. On behalf of the entire Innovation class, we would like to say thank you to Mr McKenzie and Mrs Sanderson for taking time out of their days to give us real and insightful business knowledge for us to relate to our own ideas.

Middle School Innovation Market Day

On Tuesday 14 November, the Middle School Innovation class ran their market day in which profits went towards Frankston Hospital.  Each student was given a loan of $20 to start their business and buy all the resources required.  We had a wide variety of products at the various stalls including Scoops n’ Smiles (ice-cream with your choice of toppings), Ice Chip (ice-cream sandwiches), Christmas Candles, Gingie’s Gingerbread, Jubilee Carnival games (beanbag toss and pick a duck), Jellylicious (jelly cups) and Pie Face.

The day was extremely successful and a lot of fun for the students and teachers. As a result of this day, we raised $555.05.

A huge congratulations to all the Innovation students, and on behalf of the Innovation class, I would like to thank all the teachers who got involved and the students for being our lovely customers.

Casual Dress Day

Thank you to everyone for your support of our Term 4 Casual Dress Day! The SLC is very proud to have raised $1585.55 for Canteen Australia, an Australian not-for-profit that provides free and tailored support to young people aged 12-25 who are impacted by cancer. This includes helping them deal with their own diagnosis, a close family member’s cancer, or the death of a loved one.

The Junior School raised $633.75, the Middle School raised $548.05, and Year 11 raised $192.

The Year 7 class who raised the most was 7M with $37, and the Year 8 class who raised the most was 8J with $33.

We ran a ‘guess the lollies in the jar’, and sold Zooper Doopers at recess and lunch, both of which raised an extra $211.75 for Canteen.

Congratulations to Blake Alford-Ryan of Year 9, who won the ‘lolly jar’ competition, guessing the exact number of 84 lollies.

Australian Maths Competition

Recently, we had a celebration lunch for all students from Years 7 – 12 who received a distinction in the Australian Maths Competition.  This competition is Australia wide, with thousands of students competing.  To achieve a distinction in this competition is incredibly challenging, these students should be very proud of their efforts.

A big thank you to the Maths teachers for supporting their students throughout the year to help them achieve such amazing results. We look forward to seeing how the students go next year!

ASX School’s game 2022 Semester 2

During Terms 3 and 4, some Years 9 and 10 Wealth and Work students participated in the ASX Schools Sharemarket Game.  The game gives secondary school students across Australia the opportunity to buy and sell shares using real companies, live share prices, and brokerage charges on every trade.  Students receive a hypothetical $50 000 to create a virtual share portfolio and experience which tracks the sharemarket in real time.  Many of our students experienced success on the game making a gain over a period of 10 weeks.

Congratulations to Jagoda Szczykutowicz (Year 10) who finished first at Frankston High School with a portfolio value of $52,298.00 and the other class winners were Sandra Jarocki (Year 9), Anton Davies (Year 9) and Jayden Nguyen (Year 9).
