Junior School News

It is hard to believe that this is the last newsletter article I will write for Frankston High School.  It has been such a privilege to be a part of this school and to work with such great students, families and teachers.
The previous two years were tough on everyone, but it has been so nice that 2022 has been uninterrupted and many of our significant programs are reaching great heights once again.  The End Of Year Music Concert was phenomenal.  The Senior Band achieved ‘Platinum’, the highest level of attainment at the Melbourne Bands Festival.  The Intermediate and Training Bands showed that there is great talent to come in our Music program over the next few years.  The Choir was also outstanding.  Many schools were unable to retain their Music program after two years of remote learning, so it is great to see ours flourishing.
This week I attended the Sports Presentation night where more than 80 students were recognised for representing Frankston High School at State or National level events.  It is such a credit to these students and their coaches that they have maintained their fitness levels and have the talent and determination to compete at an elite level.  It is also important to recognise the many students who have continued their commitment to sport by participating in our many, diverse sporting teams.
The Art, Media and Design Exhibition that took place a few weeks ago displayed the creative talents of our students.  Student work from Visual Arts, Visual Communication, Media and Design Technology was showcased.  The creativity and thought-provoking works were a credit to our innovative Arts and Technology Departments.  Opening night also featured some of our excellent musicians and delicious platters from the Food Technology Department.
I think it is wonderful that students have all of these opportunities to further develop their talents and interests in a school that also excels academically.  Teachers here are so knowledgeable and skilled that they give students every chance to reach their potential with their studies and pursue their aspirations.

All in all, I have mixed feelings about retirement.  I am looking forward to new challenges, but I will miss Frankston High School and the teachers, students and families who work together to make it such a great school.  I am confident that the school will continue to move from strength to strength.

Mrs Cathy Hogg

Campus Principal

We have been so impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment shown by our Year 7 and 8 students this year as they have thrown themselves into the many opportunities available at our school, within and beyond the classroom. As the year has drawn to a close, the Junior School and its students certainly haven’t slowed down!

On Wednesday 7 December, our Training Band put on their final performance. As well as playing as an ensemble, each student performed as part of a small group, and it was fantastic to see and hear how far they have come since the end of Term 1 when they began! Thank you to Mr Peter Sharp and the Instrumental Music team for their passion and dedication with our youngest musicians.

Teachers have continued to nominate students as Junior School Legends this term. Congratulations to the following students who have been recognised in Term 4:

Additionally, a large number of Junior School students received Optima Semper, academic and other special awards at our Presentation Night on Wednesday 14 December at the Frankston Arts Centre, as well as at our Sports Presentation Night on Thursday 8 December.

We recently welcomed our new Year 7 2023 cohort on campus for the first time as part of the state-wide Orientation Day on Tuesday 13 December. The students spent the morning getting to know their classmates and the 7-10 Campus then participated in a range of classes to get a taste of high school life. Thank you to the Junior School, Wellbeing and Inclusion teams and to all staff who were involved on the day. We also appreciate the support of our local primary schools throughout the transition process, and the partnerships with our parents/carers, to ensure students have a positive start at Frankston High School.

We wish all Junior School families a restful and enjoyable summer break and look forward to seeing our 2023 Year 7 students return on Monday 30 January and our 2023 Year 8 students on Tuesday 31 January.
