Billy Cart Grand Prix and Soap Box Derby

The Billy Cart Grand Prix and Soap Box Derby are on again this year on the last day of the school year, Tuesday 20th December.  A Compass Event is being created for those that haven’t been involved before and also just to give you information about the event.

Billy Cart Grand Prix is only for the Year 5/6 students. Students are to have a cart which they push and must wear a helmet on the day. The students have been given a permission note so that parents are aware that there is a billy cart involved with their child on the day. There are 3 categories, winner of the Boys / Mixed Race, winner of the Girls Race and the Best Dressed Trophy.  Hopefully we get some fantastic billy carts and have lots of fun in the race.

Soap Box Derby

This event is for Years Prep to Years 4 only.  No permission is needed, this is just information for you. The Soap Box Derby involves a cardboard box which 2 students share for the race. They both get into the box and race around the obstacle course, swapping in the Pit Stop. The box must be sturdy so that when they finish the line, it is still intact, otherwise they are not eligible for the winning medal or 2nd or 3rd place. There have been some variations over the years such as 2 boxes attached together with a rope or a spring. This is not acceptable, as both students need to be in the same box. There have been some fantastic and creative designs over the past many years, so please get your imagination happening, try to find a big enough box (The Good Guys, Harvey Norman etc), get your paint brushes out and start creating!!  We hope to see many happy faces ready for some exciting races.  The categories will be Prep Girls, Prep Boys / Mixed, Junior Girls, Junior Boys/Mixed, Middle Girls, Middle Boys / Mixed.

Congratulations, Olivia MJW!

As you may have read in previous newsletters, Olivia is a rising star on the golfing scene.  She has been competing in the Golf Australia/School Sport Victoria Championships this year and, despite several washout events in recent weeks, was finally able to complete the Eastern Division competition at Churchill Park last week.

Finishing in 4th place qualifies her for the State Final, to be held over 18 holes at Gisborne tomorrow.

We wish you luck, Olivia!

Local Cricket Clinic Opportunity

From Cricket Victoria - "Just wanted to share an opportunity for your students to attend a family activity at Ringwood Cricket Club on Saturday 10th December.  The activities are free, and we will be running some cricket games (as per the flyer). We hope to see you there."

Please see the flyer on the Community News page.

Food For Families

This year we are again proud to join with Uniting in collecting non-perishable food items to brighten the Christmas period for families in need.  Collection boxes are in the foyer for our community to leave donations of non-perishable foodstuffs and personal care products, which will be distributed through Uniting in the weeks before Christmas.

We thank our families for their continuing generosity.

From Sophie in Sickbay

There has been a sharp increase in the number of COVID notifications the school has received in the past week, further highlighting the general advice that we are currently in the middle of a new Covid wave.  The school has a limited supply of RAT kits, so please speak to the office if your family needs extras.

We thank all families who are remaining vigilant with Covid processes and indeed, all families who are helping our community by keeping their children home if they are displaying any symptoms of illness.
