St Bede's College - Bentleigh East Campus

I welcome all associated with the St Bede’s College community to the new school year, particularly our Year 7 students, and those commencing at the College in Years 8 and 9. We warmly welcome these students and their families.

Our 2023 College theme is Together we serve – Locally and Globally. This theme encourages each of us, as part of a faith community and as a learning community, to strive to do our best together, while drawing inspiration from the life of St John Baptiste de La Salle. We will be making this theme relevant in our daily dealings with the students to focus our efforts, and particularly as motivation for our Social Justice Actions this year.

Junior Athletics Carnival

On Friday 3 January, students and staff from both Campuses joined together at the Mentone Campus for the Junior Athletics Carnival (Year 7-9). It was an exciting day, with Benilde House winning the trophy. I thank students and staff for their patience as we endured a number of showers throughout the events.

St Miguel Feast Day

St Miguel is the patron saint for McCristal House. Br Miguel lived in Ecuador and was a dedicated teacher, with distinguishable religious qualities and intellectual gifts. Although suffering from poor health, he used his talents for the service of others and was well respected for his simplicity, kindness and good nature.

We celebrate his Feast Day each year on February 9. Last week students in McCristal House gathered in our Chapel for a morning Liturgy to honour St Miguel. As the year unfolds, each House will acknowledge their House patron saint in a similar manner on their Feast Day.

College Leaders Assembly

On Friday 10 February we gathered as a whole College community for the Leaders’ Investiture, and to acknowledge our Class of 2022 Academic Achievements. This is always a wonderful day for our College, and an important occasion to celebrate student success. We especially welcomed our new Year 7 students as they join our community.

As we near the completion of the first four weeks of term, I take this opportunity to thank students, parents and staff for the successful start to the year. We have had the pleasure of welcoming a number of new Staff members to the Campus, and we wish them every success in 2023. Students in all year levels have settled in well, enthusiastically engaging with their first units of work in core and elective subjects.

As we consider the words of our theme - Together we serve – Locally and Globally - may our efforts continue to be directed towards the ‘human and Christian education’ of our students as we move further into Term 1.

Live Jesus in our Hearts, Forever.
