Year 12
Congratulations to our wonderfully resilient Year 12 students on successfully completing 13 years of schooling and navigating two very difficult, highly stressful and challenging years resulting in impacted learning, study and reduced motivation whilst navigating significant and unpredictable times of change. We are very proud of each of you and congratulate you on achieving the VCE Certificate!
This is a very important time of year for change of preferences and 2023 career paths aligning with your ATAR.
If you have applied to VTAC for University or TAFE courses you can change your preferences until 4pm Thursday 22nd December 2022. We highly recommend you log into your VTAC account and check your preferences, re-order and add preferences in-line with your ATAR or in accordance with tertiary letters advising results of: Interview, Folio, Audition or pre-selection test. Year 12 students please be kind to yourselves. The ATAR does NOT define you or your capabilities! It also does not prevent you from achieving your dreams in your desired pathway.
There are multiple pathway options to help you achieve your goals. The ATAR is not a score it is a ranking of all students across the state and is designed for tertiary entrance only.
During the ATAR release, the pathways team will be available for further guidance or assistance. This may include discussing preference ordering, researching relevant courses with other universities, possible future pathways courses via certificate, diploma, advanced diploma or uni-link courses. Or alternative pathways; full time employment, apprenticeship/traineeship and applying for pre-apprenticeship courses. Whatever pathway suits you, we are here to support you!

VTAC first round offers released online through your VTAC account on Friday 13th January 2023 at 2pm. VTAC may provide ONE course offer per round, ALWAYS the highest course preference listed!
* Golden Rule #1: Always accept your first round offer, it may be your only offer! Trust your instincts, you have done the research based on your interests and career aspirations. You don't want to miss out on the opportunity of not being offered a course at all. Note: All course offers have an expiry date so make sure to accept or defer before this deadline. Also, it may be possible to transfer into your preferred course during the first year subject to tertiary institutions requirements based on grade point averages achieved.
* Golden Rule #2: Accepting your first round offer does NOT rule out future offers in additional rounds!Students may still be considered in future rounds for course preferences listed higher than the course offered in the 1st round. If students receive a preferred course they should enrol in the preferred course and unenrol in the first round offer. Universities are very used to students changing courses. Note: Students who receive their 1st course preference in the first round will not receive any addition offers as this is the highest course listed on their preferences.
Students are able to change course preferences after the release of each offer round at 4pm as per the dates listed in the table below to maximise being offered their most preferred course.
All Year 12 students are encouraged to participate in the VTAC Supplementary offer rounds from February Round 1 to maximize their offer potential. Permissions can be changed to YES on the VTAC home page.

Work Experience
Work Experience participation is optional at VSC, however we strongly encourage all students aged 15yrs+ to get involved in this very beneficial and rewarding program. Students can undertake Work Experience every year up until they graduate VSC.
Work Experience provides young people with a taste of the real world of work and a clearer understanding of a particular industry or business they may be interested in pursuing in the future. It assists in career discovery and exploration, goal setting and decision making whilst preparing students for VCE, future tertiary studies, apprenticeship/traineeships or full time work.
There are no designated time frames for students to complete placements as we believe a flexible delivery arrangement provides students with a better opportunity to meet the availability and operational time frames of businesses and industries within the community. This also means we are not competing with other local schools which can limit student’s opportunities.
Placement dates are arranged through consultation and negotiation between the employer, school and student to maximise the experience. Speak to Pathways today and collect the Preparing for the Workplace Work Experience pack.
Pathways Website
Career Development is the lifelong process of managing life, learning and work (paid and unpaid) over our lifespan. The ability to make informed decisions, manage and transition through change for a personally determined future. Young people build their career development through self-awareness; understanding how they make decisions and how these decisions impact future aspirations. Through identifying interests, values and preferred learning styles through careers exploration activities such as Morrisby in Year 9 and Careers Fast Track in Year 10. The ability to research a wide range of career options helping them to select subjects they may enjoy learning whilst aligning to tertiary course pre-requisite requirements in the future. In addition young people juggle the expectations and requirements of school, extra-curricular activities, sport and family responsibilities, part-time work and social interests which further enhances their evolving Career Development.
To further assist your Career Development please visit vscpathways.com an easy to use interface with links to various career resources, career videos, career bullseyes, course exploration, tertiary admission publications, options for Senior School: VCE, VCAL & VET - VET course handbooks, work experience, newsletter, money matters, workplace health and safety information, study skills advice, links to Youth Central website plus lots of helpful resources for both Students and Parents.
